EV general discussion

Bought my EQE from Merc in Lincoln over the phone and online - transferred the money, arranged for their driver to bring it down to a local Listers branch and drive my partex back up.

Swapping the car seat and my two year old over in the rain was the hardest part of the process

Used vs new though. You don't really order a used car for it to go wrong at some point in the process, or find out sales people are just gimps without masks and no clue about the product they are selling. :)

If I was spending tens of thousands of pounds on ANYTHING, new or used, and least of all a car, and discovered the salesman knew more about it than I did, I’d be going straight back to the internet for more research.

Talking about not knowing the product, my new company Astra estate was nearly an Astra hatchback. I literally heard the salesman on the phone shouting to a colleague. "Is it a hatchback? So what's a sports tourer then? Oh right... So it's bigger at the back?" Before confirming the Sports Tourer they had listed was actually a hatchback and asked "does that matter?"

And that was the better of the two Vauxhall dealers I've dealt with.

Everything automated without idiots in the mix sounds like bliss to me!

Yep, didn't miss any of that at all.

"Hello I want car"

"Here car"

"Take monies"

"Lol i haz car"

The end. Very refreshing tbh
To be honest my experience at Dixons of Inverness (Nissan main dealer) was exactly the same when I bought my Leaf. Pleasant sales chap who offered us tea/coffee/hot chocolate then he showed us around the car, asked if it was our first EV and proceeded to explain how everything worked. Asked if we wanted to sit in it which we did then gave us the keys and said go for a drive and even suggested a nice scenic route. Came back with a huge grin on my face and talked numbers, no pressure at all. It was the most pleasant car buying experience ever and they have been great ever since.

If you want to have a laugh and something to listen to, this guy charges $1000 to do deals on new cars in the US aiming to get 10% off over the phone so the customer never has to speak to the dealerships.

Hearing them try to defend $80k markups over MSRP is insane…

2 out of the 3 Nissan dealers I've used are like that, the 3rd one I didn't have a great experience with sales wise (pushy and assuming things were further along than I'd agreed to at that point) though and ended up taking my money elsewhere in that instance.

Haha, what an insane market. "I see $30,000 of accessories" "Yeah, that's mark up"

The new Ioniq 3 looks alright 308 mile range £18k basic just configured one for £25k.

I was just having a random browse the other day and you can pickup a 21 plate Kona ultimate spec 80k miles for £13k. That's a ridiculous amount of car for the money.

We've got the lower spec and while I prefer my ID3 to drive it's still a generally good car with a range that'll cover probably 90% of people.

Had a stupid moment this morning. Had a load of stuff (junk) to take to the recycling point in Elgin so the Leaf's back seats were down and she was loaded to the roof. I stood there thinking how the hell am I going to see out the back? Got in the car, switched on and rapidly remembered my rear view mirror is a screen!! Doh. :o

That Ionic 3's rear looks a bit Honda CRX ish. Don't like it not having a instrument cluster behind the wheel though.

Anyone have (or have experience with) a Skoda Elroq? Coming up time to replace my company car (currently a peasant spec Q4) and it seems like a decent option in terms of offering similar space and more range.

I'd say try and drive one. I found the enyaq/elroc brakes to be quite spongy with a lot of brake travel. Shame as everything else was nice. Put me off.
