Few people have recommended I try Eve, on this forum especially... Whats the crack with it?
Is there any good material I can watch/read on how to get started quickly and what does it take to really get going?
Also any of yous fancy playing and helping me along?

Take your time with it and follow the in-game tutorial first, as a newbie I would have a good go at everything the tutorial offers. Don't rush into bigger ships, the bigger the ship, the more ISK it costs and if it is destroyed it will be hard to replace. Learn to pilot the smaller ships first and work your way up.

Get to know your home station and system in High sec. Unfortunately, I do not know of any good material to watch, but an the in-game corp / clan of Eve Uni are pretty good at helping noobs from the start. There are other clans / corps that help newbies, but I've heard good things about Eve Uni.

Also, DO NOT TRUST ANYONE with your stuff! If you go to low-sec or 0.0 (lawless space), be prepared to lose your ship! I haven't been very active in the game in the last 6 months due to RL stuff.

A few points to remember :

  1. Don't shoot anyone in High-sec. You will get destroyed by Concord, these are the NPC Police that protect High sec space.
  2. If an contract / purchase looks to good to be true, its a scam. Jita, the main trading hub within Eve, is scam central, Local chat is full of them.
  3. If you use Plex to fund your account, do not move these through high-sec!
  4. You are never 100% safe in high-sec!
  5. 0.0 space is great fun, dont be scared to visit, but be prepared to die as soon as your enter it.
  6. Be prepared to lose your ship and pod!

Sounds like a 'you will need patience with it' sort of job?

Well, you can go nuts with it. But, to get the full enjoyment from the game, take your time. I have been playing on and off (time off during the summer months) for 11 years and I still don't understand some aspects of the game because I mainly PVP AKA F1 pusher.

Oh 100% yes. If you are expecting instant gratification, a pat in the back for trivial accomplishments and go in it full of entitlement then Eve online and its community will chew you up and spit you out until you quit the game. However, if you approach Eve with humility, patience and enthusiasm to learn you will be welcomed and overwhelmed with help and support. If the game clicks for you, you will most likely end up making friends for life and most other games will seem pointless in comparison.

Fact

I'd love to get into this game. I tried it a few months back when I was streaming on Twitch and had some help but I think it would really come into its own when you had a group of friends in voice chat and had an actual plan worked out between yourselves.

So much to learn about this game that I felt quite overwhelmed.
