Would a short-time player (not really a newbie) with a mining cruiser (and one of those "fighting" ones that would look so cool if it weren't for the bit dangling off the bottom) and a few big transports be welcome?

Brutix can mine quite nicely... not that I would condone mining.

It's so easy to make money in eve these days though... I remember getting my first 1m and thinking i was rich! Just doing a few level 1 missions and picking up the loot these days you can get yourself into a fairly decent frigate quickly.

yeah i remember, my freidns recently started hes only been playing a month and hit 50mil, ive never seen more than 20mil sitting in my account

always something to spend it on, im currently saving for a battleship, im not in a hurry as im training skills in the mean time, hopefully can move on to lvl 4 missions when i get the battleship

tbh you're better off spending the time training for T2 guns and T2 ships than a battleship.
assault frigs are a lot more fun that battleships

. Im currently playing with an eagle and really loving it. Tech II Neutron's with a damage mod of x9.9~ and firing every 3 seconds or so (1 day 20 hours til Rapid Shooting Level 5). Also has a fairly nice tank, it's quicker than a Battleship just slighty more expensive with the setup I run on it

I installed Eve this morning to find out there was a major patch in progress, the server appears to be back up now but I get a connection error "Incompatible (Release)". Do I have to manually patch the game?

enter your login info and click connect, it will then tell you there is a patch available and would you like to download it.

Click yes, it will patch automatically.

but the server isnt up until 17:00 anyway, so you cant connect til then!

bloody retards, server is down until 17:30.

I have to leave for work at 17:20 and my current skill finishes at 17:40! looks like i'll loose 13 hours of skill training!

It should hardly come as a surprise that the downtime is taking slightly longer than expected. Having a skill finishing 40 minutes after they estimate the server to come back up is just asking for trouble
