Hey,

Been invited to an evening wedding reception,Although i dont have a bloody clue what im going to wear and looking for some hints and suggestions!

Its a work college/Friend..shes been saying to people just wear whatever you want but im not sure.
I think a suit will be OTT,was thinking maybe something in between smart but casual, smart black jeans?,Maybe a Grey shirt, and just something light coat/jacket wise in case it is cold/raining as im sure some of it will involve going from building to building..and it will finish around 12pm so will definitely have dropped temp wise.

inb4 wear a dress,Kilt,Mankini etc

appreciate suggestions!

Definitely a smart shirt. Black jeans vs plain black trousers will depend on the overall tone of the event and people attending. It is a pretty safe bet.

Wear what you want they say....

Speedos and a big fur coat (fake of course) and voilà, teach them to be more specific next time.

I went to a wedding the other week, my cousin married a Sri Lankan girl.

I started off wearing a casual suit and shirt with no tie, ended up wearing a Sarong and flip flops with my shirt.

Apparently Sri Lankan culture is such that wandering into the bedroom of the parents of the bride and changing into traditional dress isn't seen as intrusive.

Jeans etc just makes you stand out for me and shouts evening do only pauper :p
Lol :D

I've always wondered why people think it's acceptable to dress down when coming to the evening event? I mean, 80% of the crowd would have been at the proper wedding and come straight from that right? So they'll be suited and booted? Why bring it down by wearing anything else?

Watching the thread with interest as I have a reception to go to in October. Evening only pauper :p

A suit isn't OTT for this occasion. Why do you think it's OTT?

If you aren't feeling the suit then trousers, shirt and a tie. It's always way better to over dress than it is to under dress.

I'm going a wedding next Monday and I've got to dress like a right numpty because I'm the Brides Dad.
I'm really not looking forward to wearing that stuff all day.

Get your missus to cut the legs of off your trousers, just below the knee and sew in zips. Then you can wear trousers for the actual wedding part and just zip the bottoms of when you feel the need. :D
