For people who commute regularly throughout the City Centre and people who use public transport to do so.
Have you ever been confronted, mugged, or anything along those lines for your laptop bag etc If thats inside McDonalds, Walking
through, waiting for a bus? Would love to hear any stories since Im really hesitant until I pass my driving test.

No *hugs mac*

To be honest though I have transported it in my back pack for the last couple of years making it less obvious I have one and haven't lived in places where being confronted for having a laptop bag is of common occurrence... (NI wanted things like guns not mac's...)

There's some good tracking software out there if you think it could happen but really a top tip is just to not make a big deal out of it when you have to take it out in public.

No.

Took my MacBook Pro to Sixth Form at High School everyday for two years, and then my MacBook Air to University everyday. Absolutely fine... though not living in the Ghetto might have something to do with it.

That said... nobody walking down the street would know that my bag had a MacBook Pro in it...

Nope never had any problems with mine, I've commuted into London with it everyday, and more recently been taking it in from Cambridge. I walk across London with it too. I guess as Gilbert89 says its all about how you portray yourself to other people.

Yeah I suppose, I just mean usually there is some funny looking characters around bus stops and on buses, I would use a typical man bag since I'm a student. Fred Perry thing, looks casual. No actual laptop thingy! Just thought it would be interesting knowing the day and age we live in what people have come across.

Carry mine from Deptford to Uni every day walking/tube, wouldn't even know I had it in, my bags fairly small, my main course book is bigger than my mbp..

If I was to carry a MBP/MBA in public I'd have it password protected, and using 10.7's future Find My Mac feature and completely insured.

If I'm on the way home from work in the car and pop in to Tesco's for some groceries - even if in a nice area/retail park kind of thing - I will never leave my laptop bag in the car, even if its in the boot. Asking for trouble IMO.

Anyone else also take this approach?

Had my MBP stolen whilst carrying it in a standard leather messenger bag through a park in Norbury by two very scary looking black guys with a knife. Luckily they were stupid enough to dump it in a nearby garden, where it was instantly spotted by a resident who called the police. So I still have my lovely MBP :)

Nope. I usually carry mine around with me, as well as my work laptop in an unbranded rucksack. Not had a jot of bother in 7+ years.

Those who do carry around some bling laptop bag or a generic laptop bag with a big Dell/HP logo are just asking to get robbed.

^^ just be inconspicuous, don't carry a bag that says Dell, IBM or 'Come and Rob Me' ...

Although recent events in England dictate otherwise, nevertheless don't be put off unless you get home v. late and you pass through ghost towns.

Actually just don't put yourself in harms way yet alone the bloody laptop which can always be replaced, seriously recent events one may be stabbed for the cigarette that's already half lit (ok over the top but you never know)...
