Ever ripped off a mate ??

Closest thing i've done to ripping off a mate was buying a £120 pair of bike cranks for £35. He offered me them for £45 and i knocked another tenner off, despite him easily being able to sell them for nearly double that. To be fair though, i do give him a load of random stuff like brake pads, train fairs etc... plus plenty of aggro for him being ginger :D

Generally though, me and my mates all look out for each other and what goes around usually comes around, so its better to help them out and have the favour returned later than to stiff them and have them do the same to you.

no, but the OP's situation isn't truly ripping the guy off though IMO, he didn't end up out of pocket at all.
He ended up being £35 pounds richer courtesy of his mate who should have gotten his money back and benefited from the banks mistake. He did rip him off but in an overt kind of way.

no.. wouldnt call them a mate if i did.

Exactly. You can't rip off a mate like you can't kill the dead. If you think that little of them to rob them then they simply aren't your mate and you're an idiot if you think otherwise. Some of the confessions in this thread are very low, I've seen addicts looking for a fix display a more admirable character.

I am for pimping a HD cable for like 70% RRP

You missed a 0 there.

I would never rip off a friend, it's a horrible thing to do. My ex used to do stuff like that all the time though. He used to sell on items knowing that they were either broken or something wasn't right with them, and if the buyer came back saying there was a problem, he'd claim it was their fault. That guy really had no conscience.

The worst I've done is when I got given a laptop to fix for a mate, formatted and reinstalled windows - he gave me 20 quid for my trouble.
About a week later he came to me again with a different problem, he'd opened it up to fix a loose connection with the power cord and now it wouldnt boot. Turned out he'd ripped the CPU from its socket whilst taking it apart as it was stuck to the bottom of the heatsink with so much thermal compound. Luckily it all went back in ok, it just needed reseating in the locking mechanism to get it connected again.
I spent 20 mins doing it then went back later and played around for another 2 hours whilst listening to music pretending I was having major problems with it. He ended up paying me 75 quid as I told him had he taken it to PC World they'd of charged atleast 100 quid if not more to solve it (which is true tbh). I knew if I had solved it in 20 mins he would have given me not much or nothing - people pay for my knowledge, not the time it takes me to fix something ;)

Dont get me wrong I dont mind helping mates out, I just seem to be called up and expected to go and fix computers for nothing for years now and it is beginning to peeve me off ;)

Bought a £100 CPU for £20 off a mate is the closest really, to be fair he thought it was broken and had already bought a replacement. After about two weeks of telling him his cooler wasn't good enough I got fed up and just bought it, surprise surprise it worked fine.

just to see how honest people are really. Mine is pretty tame:

A mate got me to order something for them online using my PC and credit card (as they have neither) for £35. They gave me the me cash, i ordered the item and gave it to them once it was delivered. All above board ......... apart from the company never charged my card and this was about a year ago. I said nothing! :o
Your not his mate...

An old friend of mine who went on holiday with us to Spain once broke our friendship shortly after the holiday because he was caught stealing stuff from the hotel while we were there so he got a proper roasting off my parents.

When we got back he told us to ******* (3 f's) and never spoke again, he had 4 music albums of mine and a load of towels of ours in his suitcase. So that was the end of that we thought....nope :P

What they had forgotten was that the day before we went, his mum ran a catalogue thing. We ordered a nice stereo system through her catalogue for me the day before. It arrived 2 days after he told us to ******* (3 f's). The signature on the form we signed when the stereo arrived was signed by Mickey Mouse :p The stereo was worth roughly £500 and we never made any payments for it so it became a freebie :p Never heard anything after that hehe.

I think it was a fair trade so in that view, i havent screwed any of my 'mates' over hehe :p

That stereo finally broke last month so i had to get rid of it but it did last me about 7-8 years :D

If you rip someone off, I don't think you have the right to call them your mate.

Never ripped of a mate but did something so I could get more money off my parents. Back in secondary we used to go on army related goverment funded trips which were relatively cheap. I used to photoshop the consent letter so it showed double the cost of the trip, pay the school half and keep half for myself. :o

LOL. Genious.
