Evernote beta - 'capture, sync, find'

Ah right, I saw the guy press a button in the video after adding a new image, before searching. Assumed it was some sort of indexer.

I was surprised to see it pick up the details on his ticket so easily - definitely had a wow factor about it although from what you've said it doesn't sound as impressive.

Judging by my limited testing so far I think the ticket was picked or designed to make sure it worked :)

The Windows client does have a built in local OCR, but the server-side one is apparently better.

Doesn't support PDFs yet either which is a rather strange thing to be missing from the off.

It's got potential, but as it stands it's more like a very small online disk than anything else.

The YouTube video snippet on the site looks impressive.

I just hope that it works as advertised, I'm in work and can't test it :(

I've thrown a few things at it. It managed to pick out several words on a hand scrawled post it note thing, which wasn't too bad, but I also sent in a photo of a printer letter and it's not done a very good job of it. The letter contains the same word several times, but it's only picked up random instances of it, even though they are all the same font/size.

It's like the way OCR was back in 1998 :)

This particular version is, the app itself has been around for a while. Someone asked on the official forums if they were improving the OCR as part of the beta but they didn't answer.

To be honest, they need to ditch this computerised document reading nonsense. Get me a service that employs a load of kids in a sweat shop to type up things I mail in and I'd subscribe in an instant ;)

Makes you wonder what the Alpha was like. ;)

Ah well, at least it's not as bad as voice recognition. Although I always associate that and OCR in the same bundled mess.

Don't you just love it, really ;)

I really, really don't. I'm not having a good time.

Thankfully I don't use either voice recognition or OCR, but it wouldn't be fair if I wasn't allowed to complain about how crap both are.

I like making my Mac sing. It's punishment for all the accessibility options that I don't use.

No probs :) and as you said it's still in beta, I was a bit dissapointed that the recognition doesn't work as well as their test shows but still it's early days yet. I've tried a few different note programs e.g. Journaler and this one definitely looks like it might actually get some use. One aspect for me is that it's simply better looking and easier to use than many other apps out there.

good review of the prog here: http://danieljomphe.wordpress.com/2008/03/22/evernote-for-mac-reviewed-beta-version/

Have you got msn?

When the phone is on Hold down the power button untill it says "slide to power off"

When it is off Hold down the home button and plug in you usb cable while still holding down the home button until itunes gives you confirmation of being in recovery mode.

:)

thanks for that mate - before I was doing the hold down power+home method which I think puts it into DFU.

My solution was actually to use ZiPhone to put it into Recovery mode, then follow your method with Pwnage tool. BootNeuter is just flashing baseband now :) (not that I know what that is..)

*edit* rebooting............... and we have an iPhone! Wooo!
