Does anybody still play EQ2? Been thinking about trying it out again, played it for a month or so and quite liked it, but because I never found a good guild and WoW/Work taking my time up I never stuck with it.

Hows the game progressed? Are the expansion packs needed to play the game fully? Keep in mind I never got to a high level.

Also, whats a good server to play on? I'll be a complete newb to the game so a server with some nice helpful guilds would be of help. :p

Runnyeye or Splitpaw are the euro servers. A lot has changed since release - each class has a feat tree now in addition to normal skills gained through levelling. You get feat points from exploring, doing quests and killing special mobs. Makes the classes a whole lot more interesting and a bit more unique - this was one of my gripes coming from EQ1. There have been a lot of other small changes too that just make for a more enjoyable experience - no more spirit shard runs for example.

You don't need the expansions, although I've seen the first two on sale for next to nothing on the high street over the last few months. They are Desert of Flames and Kingdom of the Sky. Echoes of Faydwer is the latest, just released.

Still no shortage of people in game either, and of course a lot more civil than that other game we don't talk about :p

I started playing EQ2 a couple of weeks ago and I must say I'm very impressed. I played the game at release and it was really bad then, but credit to SOE in addressing those problems - so far (only up to lvl 28) I've been having a great time.

As for expansions, I wouldn't say you needed the other expansions, but if you do decide then if you buy the retail version of EoF (the latest expansion) then all previous expansions are included. I just got EoF mainly so I could get the AAXP you get for killing named mobs and discovering new areas, but like I say, not necessary.

Sounds good, there were a few things that didn't hit the mark for me when I tried it just after release. Hopefully those things have been fixed now.

Installed and patched last night, gonna go play now. :p

Thanks for answering my questions!

what are the server populations like? i stopped playing last year because the server i was on had no people to group with

I play on the Nagafen PvP server. I wouldn't recommend playing on a blue server anymore, it just doesn't seem worth it. The Nagafen server is the fullest of all servers so theres always plenty of people to group with. Its a great game, though you do need to be in a good guild to get the most out of it.

If you are serious about becoming anything decent above level 50 (max is 70) then you really need all 3 expansions. Thats not a bad thing though as you can get Everquest 2 Gold Edition (EQ2 + all 3 expansions) and a month free for £18!

Cheers guys.

Playing on Runnyeye myself, found quite a nice guild. The game has changed quite a lot since I last played it, and in a good way. :p

Really enjoying it so far.

Is Nagafen a US PvP server? The EU PvP server is always low population for me while the two Normal servers are either Medium or Heavy load.

Picked this up again after not playing since a couple months after launch. Jumped onto one of my characters on Runnyeye and it looks really quiet compared to how I remembered it, especially the low-level areas which were absolutely packed with a huge list of instances last time I played. Hope it won't be too hard finding groups at the low levels.

That's because everyone who starts a new character at the moment is doing it in the noob area for the latest expansion, Echoes of Faydwer. There were 3 instances of Faydark running on Splitpaw last night there were that many people on.

I played on Nagafen for a few months until Eve sucked me back in. Not a bad game at all and apart from Eve it has the best pvp around at the moment.

Splitpaw is pretty busy at the moment due to the new expansion. You may find that the old world lowbie zones are fairly quiet but that does mean you might get a nice shot at some contested names in some of the old world dungeons, ROV Stormhold etc. But its actually a great time to start a new character as there loads of people doing the same

[brag] And we were the first guild to ding level 60 last night on splitpaw and only the 7th WW[/brag] :D
