Well i've just gone back to it after quitting it months and months ago (soon after Desert of Flames came out). Well im quite impressed with what they've done to the game, all those annoying little bugs that i had before are gone. The game just seems so much better now after all them updates.

Played WoW, got bored, left. Went back, quit again in less than a week. When i play EQ2 it just has so much more depth to it than most MMORPGs out there, not as much as EVE online of course, but more than enough.

I highly recommend people to give this a go, and if you quit many months ago, i'd also recommend you to give it a go again :) This game has changed quite a lot and im hoping you will enjoy it as much as i am again at the moment!

Good job SOE :D

I've heard the tales of how 'average' EQ2 was at release and how it's now very much better. I played it for a week or so a few months back and went back to WoW. It looked like a good game, I was just unfamiliar with it and keep meaning to give it another shot. On the other hand I've heard that the levelling process is likely to be solo, since the game is now 'mature', with most people at the higher levels. I'd not really want to miss out on all the group content while levelling.

Thing that annoyed me about EQ2 was that once you hit the mid 20's all you had left to look forward to was basically bigger versions of existing skills and spells. Played a few characters up to 30 and then kind of lost interest.

Me and the Wife have recently started playing EQ2. We did play initially for around a month after release but it is a completely different game now. It's the best one i've played since DAoC.

As to being a mature game and grouping, there are surprisingly quite a few groups about at lower levels for most of the dungeons i've been in and the 1-9 / 10 -19 etc channels are fairly active.

Thats not strictly the case, although in general you are correct there are quite a few unique skills and spells that you attain as you progress through the level range.

As for character 'maturity' on the servers, again it's an issue I've never had cause problems, there always seems to be groups for all level ranges on the server I play on (Lucan D'Lere) unless you tend to play during odd hours.

I played EQ2 at launch when it was released for about 2 months, mainly as a stop gap after I left SWG until WoW came out. I've played WoW since it's release, but got (am) a bit bored with it.

I re-bought EQ2 a couple of months ago, the pack with EQ2 + all the expansions. I've unsubscribed from it now though and gone back to WoW although I'm pretty bored of that still.

My main problem with EQ2 is that I have no idea what I'm doing, a pretty big one though I guess! lol. Coming from the WoW viewpoint at least, I found the quests in EQ2 hard to follow. To me they went along the lines of 'Go to X and kill Y', okay fair enough. My first stumbling block however was I never knew where X was, the quests don't always say 'Head south' or something, it might just say 'Go to Dog Pond' okay, where is that? lol. The map doesn't tell you place names when you hover over it ala WoW, so I found it very hard and time consuming to know where to go.

The nearest I found to an EQ2 Thottbot was EQ2 Allakhazam which was pretty poor tbh and contained little or no pointers to quests. I downloaded EQ2MAP? which put waypoints on the map but even that was not user friendly at all and I just got bored! :(

I have a couple of characters, the highest been low 20's but struggle to find the interest to play mainly because I think it's hard for a beginner such as myself (compared to WoW at least). It's a good game I feel but various things seem to go unexplained and the game didn't come with a manual other than a PDF one which you can download which seems very much out of date.

Well i think its to encourage you to explore, a lot like a real adventurer would do :p

As for the lack of new skills...well its a lot like WoW isn't it? After a certain level all you're doing is buying real expensive upgrades to your current spells, and rarely do you get something new (and useful). Well i only played a mage so i don't know about the other characters in WoW!

I met another WoW guy on the starting island of EQ2 and he said he didnt like it because he couldn't get used to the UI, etc. Then he says he came from WoW and turns out he was expecting EQ2 to play like WoW. WoW and EQ2 and two different games, you won't enjoy EQ2 if you try and play it like WoW!

Well i think EQ2 has a lot to offer, especially some of those features in the expansion to improve character diversity. Shame i can't find the all-in-one pack anywhere!!

I quit about the same time after DoF came out after playing since beta. Good to hear it's not gone down the drain by SOE :) Might have to reactivate for a month or 2.

Prefer it to WoW tbh but i agree it plays different and well worth a try if your bored of other mmo's.

silverskyline, you just need to ask in chat, the community is usually very helpfull.

BlackDragon, Direct2Drive has the all in one pack available.

You say that as if to say "well Wow does it, so it must be ok" :p

It's just lazy, but unfortunately more and more common in new mmo's. Give me an EQ1 bard any day :)

Well recommend you to go back to it :) Second day back and im playing my berserker from scratch, which seems to have changed quite a bit.

For some reason they removed it from Direct2Drive...can't get it in any shops in the UK...perhaps they just ran out of serial keys? :p

I found it to be entertaining for the 1st time around reaching level 60+. I then got my first character to 70, joined a guild and did some raiding. Things went downhill then.

Raiding was fun the first few times, then it just got like an evening job, god help you if you made a mistake. Constant sacrifice for no reward 90% of the time. People fool themselves into thinking others care about what they look like or what gear they have in these games, when you really dont give a damn.

I quit after a month of that raiding malarky. People say you were just in a poor guild, well I managed to get into raids with the so called top guilds on the servers when they were short staffed and they just do the same crap, its just there bigger nerds than the others 3 boxing characters themselves, lol.

Rolling new characters isnt the same the second time around, you do all the same quest lines after lvl 20. Total waste of time. If its your first venture into mmo's thats fine, its a good game, but has limited replay value once you've achieved the highest levels, like all mmo's i suppose.

It was the same for me in wow. The end game killed it for me, guilds were just aweful, but the game made it that way, you couldnt be a part-time raider. There are many here that say thats rubbish and you can but in my experience you cant. You need to be there practically every night, or when the guild says so, even if your not raiding just to show an interest.

Played EQ2 after I fell out with wow, it was a good game has more depth, but wow has killed my enthusiasm for all mmo tbh, so only got to level 30+.

LOTRO is the same played it got bored knowing whats coming at the end.

I don't think raiding (in any MMO) is suitable for everyone. It really does depend on who you are playing with. If you are playing with idiots then of course you won't enjoy it but if you're playing with nice people (and on TS) you can have a laugh and a chance of getting some nice loot, especially if the raid is well organised. I've heard that the endgame content has changed quite a bit, although i've never reached endgame ill look forward to it. But getting to 70 will take a long time so i can enjoy the game until then :p
