Just started out on Everquest 2 after a very long break from it (started out when it was in beta and for a brief while afterwards) and trying to get used to it all again.
I've started out as a Sarnak Shadowknight although no idea if that's a good class to go for, I want mainly a soloing class as I play intermittently at the moment.
Main question is, are there any sites useful for learning things about the different classes and info on tradeskills?
Used to be loads about for EQ1 that were invaluable but struggling to find a good one at the moment. I know of http://eq2.allakhazam.com/ but I'm not overly keen on it so wondered what others were available. Just something with some good articles would do really.

Thanks :)

I started off as a SK too as they're a good solo class, I'm currently playing a necro now though and am enjoying it more. As far as trade sites go I always use http://eq2.eqtraders.com/articles/news_page.php for any info I need, it lists all the recipes for each tier so helps you decide which advanced books you want to invest in and also has forums with FAQs etc.

As far as class guides go http://eq2.tentonhammer.com/ gives an overview of each one. It's really fast to level in Timorous Deep so you should try a few classes out there to get an idea of which one suits you best, I'd recommend doing 1-20 in TD on any character as the rewards/drops there are significantly better than the other starter zones.

Thanks both :) Those sites all look really useful.
Tempted to try out a bruiser class as I loved being a monk in EQ1 so I'll give that a whirl.
So much to learn :D

Really good class, I played a monk for 2 years and enjoyed him while being a little envious of the bruisers ability to heal better than myself. I stand by the monk being the best class I've played in a MMG to date.

PS I'm now tempted to start EQ2 again! aggrrrh damn you!

Lol :D Always the way.
I'll try out a monk or bruiser later on then :)
It's already bringing back fond memories of EQ1, it might have ruled my life for a fair while but in a good way :p

The feeling of getting the old manastone or fishbone earing again always brings a smile to my face, or rather a sign of relief at how hard it was to complete the quest.

How busy are the servers? I've been playing Vanguard (but not for a few weeks now) and it's nearly dead, which is a shame. It feels a little weird having no MMG to read up on while at work.

Seems quite active in the chat channels. Obviously not ventured out too far yet so can't say for higher level areas but it certainly doesn't seem dead.

Whats EQ2 like these days? I played EQ1 for about 5 years and looking back now most of those 5 years were a grind. I tried EQ2 when it first came out and it seemed to be much the same with better graphics. Currently Im playing WoW and I very much like the pick up/put down nature of it.

Is it fast to level in EQ2 now? Is there lots to do? Is the player base very big? Just like to be brought up to speed really.

When I played (been 18months since) I really enjoyed it, the improvement over the beta/release was amazing...sadly Because of the bad release I'm sure meant it will never have the numbers of people playing it should.

Defiantly not that fast to level, better than EQ1 but thats mainly down to the amount of quests available rather than just grind grind grind for exp. They may have changed that since I played.

Should be loads to do now, I always had an option of 4-5 good zones to quest/exp in and since then another two expansions have been released so I'm sure things to do wouldn't be a problem. Some nice quests based upon some old EQ1 items as well and a good amount of EQ1 lore is in the game. Also like WoW theres a few nice zones for single groups to explore which can take anything from 15mins to 3-4 hours to complete, usually around the higher levels mind.

That wouldn't be Cuppa Tea from Bristlebane by chance would it?

XP gain has been increased again recently, there's a lot of players turning off combat XP to slow down the levelling process these days.

Graphically odd? I kow where you're coming from, it has some of the most beautiful graphics at times and at others it does look a little... odd as you say.

I still think that some of the original character models are the best I've ever seen.

Been playing an iksar bruiser tonight, only reached level 10 but enjoying it more than the SK.
I love the fact that the skeletons sound the same as in EQ1 :D
I can feel a hint of the old addiction creeping back but I'm hoping it doesn't get me quite as much as I let it during college years ago :p

Ah, the skeletons and that laugh... that laugh has drove me insane over the years! :p

As soon as the asian style models came out I switched off the originals and never looked back. Some of the original elven races especially looked awful.

Yeah I use every alternate model possible, they look so much better for all races that can use them. And I still haven't tired of the skeleton laugh yet even though my warrior pet seems to to it throughout every pull. :)

Gawd no, Soga models look awful :(
