Everyone - I recommend VESA wall-mounting your TFTs!

My brother got me a cheap VESA wall-mount for a TFT screen and it's fantastic! Well built and robust, it swivels pivots and tilts any way you'd need it to, and has zero desktop footprint allowing keyboards beer bottles etc to go underneath! The mount was only around a tenner.

It's also great because you can mount it at face high all the time but also have it closer to your face / nearer the wall. I know the expensive screens have great stands and can do this, but they still have desktop footprint and for a tenner it's so worth it imo. Who's wall-mounted their TFT and what do you reckon?

I'm thinking about this....any chance of some pics??

Exactly how adjustable are these things?

Are you saying you can push the screen away from you and pull it towards you even though its bolted to the wall?

If so I hope my 226BW will do this :)

Cheers,

G

Pics would be good...

I would love to get one, with my desk being a corner unit, I would have to see how far the wall mount moves...

Is there a pivot in the middle of the arm that comes from the bracket off the wall? How long is it?

My setup would be something like this...

I am changing to a straight desk though in a coming weeks, might just have to wait till then to get a couple of wall mounts.

i thought about doing this a while back but decided against it because it would probably just pull down the wall (plasterboard) and I don't trust my d.i.y. abilities to put it up securely - I believe that would involve cutting out a chunk of the plasterboard and putting in a wooden block or something.

Well, its easy enough to find where the batterns are behind my walls. If there are too far away, then I would just fix them with platerboard raw plugs closest to the battern as I could get it, I wouldnt of thought this could be a problem

Hi peeps, pics attached as requested. To answer your questions I do not know about the range of VESA mounts available since I hadn't done much research before this came my way, but I can say that the mount does not allow direct in and out movement towards and away from you, but it does pivot round closer to the wall in an arc if you see what I mean. I.e. it can either be central and close, or slightly off to the left or right and against the wall. This is absolutely fine as the desk still allows you to sit straight on at the TFT.

I don't know what model this is as I cannot find it on the IKEA website, but I vastly prefer it to the poor stand on the Hanns G as its height can't be adjusted. With this you can pull it closer to your face at eye level and the experience in movies and games like BF2 is much improved compared to having to look down, all with a bottle of beer an arm's length away! That and I think it looks better.

There are three points of movement - clockwise and anti-clockwise 180 degrees, tilt towards and away 80 degrees or so, and arcing left and right.

Looks great with the Hanns-G, there was me thinking of getting one then thinking not, cant make up my mind.

Can you find out what model it is?

That looks like it's built for a larger panel, i.e. stronger than it need be for that size screen.

Also, it has only the single arm meaning that to push it further back against the wall the monitor moves to the side.

A dual arm allows better positioning.

^ totally agree, dual arm would be better and it's a bit robust, but it doesn't matter as it was only a tenner and whether it goes back without moving left or right isn't a biggy to me. At least when I get a bigger screen / small flat panel TV it will be man enough for the job. Main thing is it does the job and reclaims even more desk space.

Sorry guys don't know model number as threw box away and it's not written on it, there will be better out there anyway if you look around. Just wanted to highlight the benefits in general rather than this particular model.

:)

Very interesting, what do we need to search for to fine these...

Also would it fit a dell 20incher

As long as it has vesa 75 or vesa 100 fittings on the back it should work just fine (4 screw holes spaced either 75mm or 100mm apart).

I have found a few in the region of £15-£20 delivered just by going on froogle and searching for vesa wall mount.
