Everything is offensive if you try hard enough

I find it more annoying that Tesco and all these companies pander to the offended and come out and pull the ad/apologise etc.

I do wonder if banning someone from a forum over minor things when they are potentially customers who can spend thousands of pounds might not be the brightest idea. Like you'd generally want pretty good vibes coming out of people who represent your company

I agree, peeing off potential customers over what amounts too a difference of opinion is bad business sense.

Oh the old "Do you know how much I spend?" card... makes no difference - money doesn't affect the rules (which are partly to protect OcUK in the first place).

Regardless - this is not the place to discuss it.

I haven't been banned (recently) and it wouldn't personally affect where I spend money, but for some people it definitely would. Each company to their own I guess.

Is it people are more offended, or just that the media are now more willing to post an article when any random person finds something offensive?

24 hour news - you need more stories than when it was just on TV 3 times a day and one paper print in the morning.

I think it's this, the press were in a race to the bottom, now they just keep digging for rubbish.

Lots of parents in their 40s now, have bred **********. Professional "I'm offended by-ers" who think they are entitled to say and do anything because mum and dad didn't say no to them when they were young. I see it daily and it bugs the hell out of me.

Yep, now those kids are teenagers starting work and are quickly finding out that the real world doesn't give a **** if they are offended. It's not like back in school where the teachers were not allowed to speak their mind.

Does seem lots of companies and people are more likely to make fun of certain religions over others...

Let's see Tesco make fun of Ramadan and then "pull" the advert.

Easy free marketing.

I think the opposite is the case - people are much less offended these days than in the past - I mean we're generally not prosecuting people for blasphemy these days and we've moved on from burning people at the stake. Some views have changed a bit re: marginalised groups which has challenged people with conservative views. It is less acceptable for advertisers to be openly sexist but we're a bit more lenient on stores opening on a Sunday, sex before marriage, interracial marriage, gay marriage etc..etc..

Some newer arrivals carry some attitudes that we might see as backwards now - though more so the older/earlier generations - a worrying % of muslims would like blasphemy to be illegal, some Sikhs are opposed to interfaith marriage to the point where they've been actively breaking up ceremonies. But generally we're more tolerant and thankfully the younger generation of immigrant communities are (mostly) assimilating better. Hopefully as people become less religious the world will be a better place.

Speaking of people being offended, Last Halloween I dressed as an Irish kilt wearing WW2 German soldier, As I'm half southern Irish half eastern German I thought it was kind of funny but noooooo some *** got offended on the behalf of Germans, Irish and various other people, I laughed in their face and kept drinking while saluting my Guinness "HEIL GUINNESS" :p
