Hi ppl im about to build a new gaming rig for my son and was wondering which mobo to go for, its between the evga sli and the evga *** 1156.
Which would be better?
I was going to get the asus maximus iii, but from what ive read on various forums, the the cpu socket are a bit ropey as they are made by foxconn.
Any help would be helpfull.

Don't worry about that socket issue, its really only an issue when using extreme voltages, by that i mean the sub zero cooling people.

Just wanted to let you know its not an issue for normal overclocking or stock running.

I don't know much about those mobo's u mentioned but all 3 are good, and from excellent manufactures, im sure someone with more knowledge will post soon.

Thanks for the reply, that has put me in a dilema.
All three mobos are are rated as extremley good, (barr the socket issue).
Now which one shall i get my son?

After taking a look at all 3, and if it was me, id personally go for the evga *** one as its the cheapest out of the 3, but not being cheap if u know what i mean.

The SLi one to me is way overpriced, and pointless to get unless your son wants to sli some nvida cards, if not then no point.

But again id hold off and wait for some others to post, im going on stuff iv read about them, others here have them so there input will be better then mine.

Once again thanks.

That's a pretty mean rig you got there, I'm sure your son will have a great time with that!

Thanks Shinester, its for my son`s b`day at the end of the month, i feel a bit jealous actually. mind you he doesnt know he`s getting it so maybe, just maybe i might forget to give it to him...lol

I just bought pretty much the same rig,

Sapphire 5850
Asus Maximus III Formula
Intel i5 - 750

I would suggest getting a different brand of graphics card, as there have been no asus graphics cards in stock at all. Also i would recommend the Maximus III Formula and you can get it for cheaper than the one you listed if you look around. Although this may be a bit biased as i have the board. All in all though i expect your son will be very happy :)

The asus, tbh, was my premium choice.
Given the colour coding of it and the ram and case (albeit the inside unpainted, wonder if they do an all black version).
The added bonus of the x-fi sound card would save me a little cash in the future. (he`s bound to ask for one)
BTW theres only about £5/£10 difference between the evga and asus boards from what i can see.
Decisions, decisions! might just flip a coin and see how it falls!

I'm going to vote for the EVGA P55 F.T.W ;)

It's a great board and has onboard sound easily as good as the Asus in the shape of the Realtek ALC889 codec.

Hey COUPE69, is your vote based on your rig you build?

I sense a small bit of bias there :D.

After a bit of thought (and it hurt, my only brain cell took a bit of stiring) i think i`ll opt for the evga.

Decided to change the corsair H50 to to a CNPS10X Extreme Ultra Quiet,

as far as im aware the H50 is marginaly better than the Zalaman,
i dont see its worth the extra £20 or so extra.

Any one know where to get a replacement fan with red led`s for the Zalaman?
