Is the ACX version of the EVGA cards worth the extra compared to the stock cooling? Apart from the extra life span i cant really fing any info on them.

I would not buy any of these cards with a fancy cooler, as the first thing I would do is put waterblocks on them.

Well from what I've read - at least reference EVGA card (if you're thinking about GTX 770) has still the same stuff inside of the cooler - just the cool titan casing and LED are gone. with GTX 770 & 780 - I don't think you will see much in a noise difference, but ACX is definitely cooler (downside - you need to have good airflow in the case, as all the heat gets dumped inside). If you want SLI - go reference; if you want a single card - ACX is not a bad idea as long as the price difference is not too big (I've ordered one myself).

I usually put my cards under water so what cooler they use doesn't make any difference. But if i was going air i would choose a custom cooler over the Titan.

Aesthetically the Titan cooler looks better but it's all about how cool and quiet for me. I must say though Nvidia did do a great job on the Titan cooler though :)

I've just replaced my 680 Twin Frozr with a 780 ACX, and the cooler is much quieter under load despite running at the same temp (low/mid 60s).

I've not overclocked the card as in most situations so far the clock boosts to a steady 1071MHz, which gives me literally a 50% improvement over the 680.

In my experience (from my reference 780) the titan cooler IS both very effective and very quiet.

It is a premium cooler just like the WF 3x or Twin Frozr.

Not everyone wants watercooling though Kaap :)

The problem I have found is, my GTX 690s are quite happy running with their original coolers in a 800D case. My Asus Matrix PLatinums also in a 800D case when running flat out make the inside of the case so hot the pipework for the CPU waterloop sags, the water level drops in the res and things get incredibly toasty. To be on the safe side with the Platinums I have to play Civ 5 with the side off the case.:D

In think custom coolers are ok if you are using a single card but can be a liability when using 2 or more cards.

What is interesting is 4 Titans in SLI with their stock coolers don't heat the inside of a case up anything like a pair of Asus Matrix Platinum.:D

My Titans are not great to be honest at cooling. on 324Mhz idle, one is 43c and the other is 41c. A little too hot for my liking.

The one thing I did not like with the Titans on air was having to run a custom fan profile to stop them throttling when gaming.

On water it is a totally different story, I don't have to load Precision X and use a fan profile. It's nice to just load a game and play without worrying about what the temps might do.:)

I am stuck with Precision X to stop throttling for a while :(

Agreed.

For me anyone running 2 or more Titans, watercooling is a must (IMHO) :)

Don't get me wrong i'm not knocking the cooler. It's just that from what little benching i've done with my titan it does get a bit loud when i have to turn the fan up.
From what i hear some of the custom ones for the GTX780 seem to be a little quieter and run cooler. Maybe it just seems loud to me having got used to water.

Anyway my block should be with me soon so :D

I guess its all relative. :) IMO when benching at unusually high fan speed all air coolers get noisy. My old WF 3x was silent in normal use but VERY noisy at full chat for benching at max o/c! I was pleasantly surprised with the noise from the titan cooler even at high speed.

I bet coming from water cooled setups all air coolers at full chat are loud!

I have to admit I like the illuminated logo too!:p
