EVGA backplates only available direct from EVGA?

Am I right in thinking that the only way to get an EVGA backplate for any of the current gen cards is to either:

  1. buy a card with one factory fitted (only FTW+ cards?)
  2. buy a separate backplate direct from EVGA EU (stupid p&p price)
  3. wait until EVGA do another free backplate promo (who knows when that could be)
None of these options is ideal...

I thought I saw EVGA reps on this forum previously but I'm not sure if they're still around? if any reps are around I'd like to know if the backplates are going to find their way to retailers or the above will remain the only choices. Thanks

I got mine from 'elsewhere'.. Can't say but cheaper than EVGA! You tried googling?

Gotta love EVGA backplates though, the card looks awesome with it fitted. Much better than the ones that came with the 980.

Hi

I usually introduce EVGA backplates around 2-3 months after launch to UK retailors. Usually it takes us time to get free and available stock to be able to make these free for UK retailors to sell onto consumers.

As I know these are in demand I will work hard this week to get them set up in the UK for purchase. On the GTX970 in the first month of launch we also did a free backplate giveaway and so these may take a little more time I hope to certainly get them set up as soon as possible though.

I hope this helps

Thanks
Ben

Thanks for the info Ben.

I don't know if I'm behind the curve but I recently decided that backplates are a great idea and I don't really want a new card that doesn't have one so it's a bit disappointing that 2-3 months is the usual delay from new EVGA cards launching. Will this be quicker in future if backplates are becoming more popular? will EVGA launch cards more often with backplates either factory fitted or as options to buy simultaneously with new cards?

As it happens I was checking the EVGA store daily waiting for the 970 SSC plate to be available to buy with the new SSC, but the backplates didn't arrive, the card price increased €40 overnight and shortly after the VRAM issue snowballed. In the this instance the backplate availabilty meant I didn't buy the card at all, although one could argue I was lucky because of the VRAM issue.

So, now I'm more or less back to waiting for a 960 Ti (or whatever ends up in the space between 960 & 970) with one eye on the 960 deals...
