As you may or may not know, Nvidia has robbed its customers by disabling the PhysX technology (GPU and PPU) anytime a Non-Nvidia GPU is present in the system (even IGPs) since the release of 186 GeForce drivers. As predicted, the community responded critically and eventually a user by name of GenL created a patch that removes the blockage and reclaims the feature. This patch is justifiable since we believe if a user bought a GeForce card, he unquestionably deserves access to all its features.

Now, it has come to our attention that EVGA is preventing users from discussing the PhysX mod on their forums. "Sorry guys, but this thread must be locked here. We've stated multiple times in the past that discussion of the PhysX mod is not permitted on these forums, as it is a violation of Nvidia's Intellectual Property rights. This is non-negotiable, and as a partner of Nvidia, we must also respect its rights. Next thread discussing the PhysX mod will earn a warning." said nordicjedi, a forum moderator on EVGA.

Dear EVGA, before you talk about "intellectual property", let's talk about "property". Consumers bought a piece of hardware that was designed to perform several tasks. After some time, Nvidia deviously crippled the product and introduced new restrictions that weren't in the "minimum requirements", that's illegal - plain and simple. It's none of EVGA's/Nvidia's business if we have an additional Non-Nvidia GPU in our systems or not.

We advise consumers to think twice before acquiring an Nvidia/EVGA product, as they have no respect for consumers and their rights.

I cant understand why nvidia don't embrase the fact people want physX. And realise a new updated version of the ageia card with drivers that work with ati cards. They would make a packet if they sold them around the £80 mark.

Do they? have you seen the current support for it, it's virtually none existent, the fact that people may have a Nvidia GPU and can't use them for physx becuase there is an Intel or ATI GPU in the system goes to show what Nvidia have become.

What else are EVGA supposed to do? I don't support what nVidia have done with locking out PhysX - but EVGA are a legal entity and have to protect themselves as such - the author is an idiot. Similiar as OcUK can't allow warez, etc. to be discussed on their forums.

Yup, EVGA are basically at the mercy of Nvidia, if they don't do literally EVERYTHING Nvidia say, even if the CEO phones up and asks someone to come and tickle his balls, they are screwed.

THey get better prices than almost anyone else from Nvidia by staying "loyal" and exclusive to Nvidia, theres FAR more profit in AMD at the moment and all Nvidia's exclusive partners are suffering. Upsetting Nvidia is a big no no, EVGA are caught between a rock and a hard place.

Though EVGA really should just jump ship and lose a little profit on the Nvidia side, while taking on AMD business and making a bigger profit. Though thats problematic at the moment as plenty of AMD partners can't get all the cards they want due to TSMC's ridiculously low production.

I wouldn't be completely surprised to see EVGA follow XFX after AMD have moved to GloFo and production capacity is improved dramatically.

THe interesting thing is, a bunch of people have taken up a class action suit over the PS3's "other OS" option being removed, as it was advertised as a feature and has been removed without choice so people literally don't have what they paid for.

Nvidia have done exactly the same thing, some people should get together and sue Nvidia over it, they literally don't have a leg to stand on over it.

EVGA has a respected motherboard line as well as a few other side lines that keep them going so I don't see them turning away from nVidia, unlike other partners they don't have most of their eggs in the nVidia basket.

This, Evga have no choice but to enforce this, they after all are entered into a contractual arrangement with nvidia and have to respect there wishes.

Evga are lucky they have a mobo devision or they could have fallen the same way as bfg. PhysX is pointless in its current guise, something open source has to prevail if they wont allow even a secondary nvidia card to do it. Nvidia are trying to bully the market when they don't have the products to back up their position and risk losing even more customers.

Seems like a slow news day tbh, I don't see what the big deal is. So what if you can't discuss the mod on the EVGA forums? There are plenty of other places you can! lol

Another that doesn't think it is fair to have a go at evga on this there are legal issues here that dictate their attitude and behaviour towards such discussions and they have no choice. It is nvidia that should be targetted if anyone as it was their choice to do this their partners had no option once that was decided. I think we will gradually see the end of excludive deals between certain companys as lately events have shown it is not the best thing for either company or consumer.

Their motherboard line though, was entirely Nvidia based, and its mostly specialised Nvidia designs with I wouldn't be surprised to see the daft Nvidia pci-e lanes chip added to half of them. Either way they are incredibly low volume in terms of mobo's sold, which makes the R&D, support, manufacturing, shipping all incredibly expensive relatively.

They are almost entirely reliant on Nvidia and more so than most partners as theres very few exclusive Nvidia partners anymore. Even the likes of palit have their smaller brands embedded, like Gainward, who have moved on to doing AMD cards.

EVGA should make a stand and help people get their cards working for physx if their users happen to have AMD as their main gfx cards, but to do so would incur Nvidia's wrath, which they just can't afford at the moment.

think of all the old cards they could sell as physX cards.seems an easy way to corner a market with a lil development.

The issue at hand here is that Nvidia should not be allowed to dictate how we use their hardware. We want their cards solely for PhysX. They should be glad we're buying nvidia cards just for that purpose, instead of not buying any at all.

It seems like Nvidia wants to enforce a monopoly on us, similar to Apple/Sony. It's either "use only nvidia" or "don't use physx at all".
