Hey guys

I built my PC around 7 months ago, everything has be superb since, except last week. Whilst playing GTA4, my screen locked-up and showed thousand of multicoloured pixels, to which I then had to restart.

The next day, it happened again playing CS, except this time the lock-up showed a full green block colour. This happened around 4 - 5 times the next day, until finally I reseated my RAM, Card, wires etc. It then worked for around 6 hours, but then happened again. The weird thing is, my temps never go above 70 degrees full load as i manually set my fan to +65% anyway, so heat is not an issue. I get around 38 - 45 degrees idle.

At first i thought maybe a driver was the problem, since my card was basically brand new, and been used for only 6 months. However since then, when I boot up my PC, the graphics card fans act erratic starting at 100% and then going to 40% then back up to 100% and then finally after a suitable amount of time 30 - 1 minute, it will boot and load up vista.

If anyone has had a similiar problem, or thinks this is definitely a card malfunction please give me some advice, as i'm not sure what to do. I'm not even sure OCuk do RMA 6 months later?

Thanks for any help in advance. :D

Thanks for your reply

I'm thinking of doing that now, as i'm desperate. I will try put it in my old computer, and run a few benchmarks to see if I get the same results.

If it does work on my old PC, what else could be causing these coloured scren lock-ups?

A driver issue/is the rest of your main system clocked?/pixies :p

I would also try some older drivers though just to be sure. However from what you described it does sound like it has had it :(

No, my system i'snt overclocked, the GTX 280 i bought was superclocked from EVGA.
Thanks for your help anyway though> Just a shame it's hit it's end after such a small amount of time :(

GOD DAMN NVIDIA! :P

I did hear that cards that are dying or dead, tend to heat up to very high temperatures, is that only certain cards ?

My god, that really is shocking. The fail rate is double, even triple the other cards. I'm writting the RMA note as we speak :)

I hope they can replace it.

Well from my own experience I can only praise OCUK's RMA. They refunded me fully on 4x1GB Crucial Ballistix even though they were over 28days old, and I sent them back my dead XFX 8800GTX and got back a Gigabyte GTX 260 OC :)

That's a pretty sweet deal getting a 260. I RMA'd a P5Q mobo once, and they replaced it which was good. Completly dead when It arrived though :)

Thanks for your help though dude, I appreciate it

:D

also EVGA are have awesome customer service

if you send it back off to them, give it a once over to make sure there's no dust etc clogging the card and you'll get a brand new boxed card in return :)
