EVGA Pascal cards hotspot problem

Same here Ivan.

Thinking i might just sell my SC at a loss (maybe get £370 on an auction site) and get an MSI gaming X. Can't really be bothered with the hassle. Sounds like EVGA don't really want to exchange cards for new ones.

370 wishful thinking mate on gumtree they go for around 320

Wow that noise level increase is really bad and removes value from the card.

Personally I would say it looks like the bios mod isn't a proper fix at all and just masks the issue, creates a new one and is still hotter than other cards. The thermal pads are the real solution.

wow......... That's unacceptable for cards of this value IMO.

That's 290x noise level there!

Not 100% clear as to what I'm seeing above.
It appears to be comparing 60% fan speed against 80% fan speed.

The default fan curve only hits 30% at 70C.

Think I'd want to actually see the new default fan curve before judging.
Maybe I'm just being thick (don't answer that).

Any fan spinning at 2200RPM is going to sound like a hairdryer. I had a Nano for a while that got up to around that range and it was utterly insufferable. It's a "fix" that costs EVGA nothing though, so no wonder they're pushing it as the best option, end user experience be damned. I'm just happy that I sold my 1070 FTW months ago.

Agreed, that's a pretty high increase in noise!! A major eVGA selling-point just got nerfed....

Really the product is no longer as what was sold to many users.

This 1070 ftw will be my my last EVGA card i think , should have been a recall and new cards issued at no cost or a refund imo

Had a Gigabyte 780 nothing wrong with it, Reading on the forums through the years EVGA was really good so when I upgraded to a 1070 thought I would go with EVGA, But it seems they are plagued by problems, I regret doing so.

Maybe this info regarding the ACX 3.0 should be changed;

These cards also feature EVGA ACX 3.0 cooling technology. EVGA ACX 3.0 once again brings new and exciting features to the award winning EVGA ACX cooling technology, SHP 2.0 gives increased heatpipes and copper contact area for cooler operation, and optimized fan curve for even quieter gaming.

No longer valid it seems.

What I'm trying to get at. Is what core temp is this talking about? As the current default fan curve only runs at 30% at 70C ... so what the hell temp are they testing at to hit 60% fan speed on the stock fan profile to get 60% ?????? Confused I am.

I think there's so much BS flying about at the moment, that it's hard to know what's REALY going on at times.

Really not happy with this whole scenario :(

It has really shaken my opinions of evga as a top brand. They have blatantly skimped on the cooling on a premium product.

I seriously doubt my next card will be evga after this fiasco.

Like Albaba, I'm wondering if selling up and buying a different brand would be best.

I'd go for a zotac amp right now i think.

I have to agree, but I only have my GPU's no longer then a year or so anyways, so I'll stick with mine, but will think twice about buying EVGA in the future.

I'm certainly not accepting some manky refurb in exchange for my pristine condition card.

I'll apply the bios update and if it's too noisy i will review.

Surely it would make sense to everyone to look at the gamers nexus graph and realise that EVGA have upped the given fan speed at similar temps to the old BIOS to try and lessen the vrms burning. I don't even have to go to the article to gather that, as clearly EVGA are trying to firefight atm.

Think of it as creating a custom fan curve in afterburner, they've just made it much more aggressive to try and compensate.

I really don't like the way this is being dealt with.

EVGA are making it sound like supplying thermal pads is doing us a favour to make our cards even better.

The vrm temps are nearly 30c higher than all the other brands! There is blatantly an issue.

They need to stop treating us like we are stupid.
