Hi Guys

I have replaced the stock cooler on my 670 with the Accelero Twin Turbo 2, however my temps are running close to 100c under load.

This is not good as I was expecting a significant reduction, any ideas as to why this has occured?

Could it be as simple as poor fitment of the heatsink? I had a few problems aligning the heatsink when installing and had to leave a couple of the ram sinks out as the frame snagged.
 
sounds like either you have not got great contact with the heat sink, try again take your time :) what thermal paste did you use?...you did use thermal paste right?
 
I used the thermal paste attached to the heatsink.

I think you are both right, will need to get some more paste and try re-seating it. It hit 100c in wow at 50% load.

MX4 is pre-applied to the heatsink.

@op, try unscrewing the heatsink but don't remove it from the core and re screw it going clockwise.

Screw 1, 3, 2, 4 then repeat until screws are tight, you maybe simply didn't do it right first time.

Ah sorry, didn't realise it comes with pre-applied paste. Just read the description and the paste is MX-4 as well which is high quality stuff so that should be fine. It sounds like it just might not be seated properly. Try looking sideways on and see if you can see any gaps between the GPU and heatsink.
 
Right I have just taken it apart and the thermal paste appeared to be quite thickly spread with all parts of the gpu in contact with the heatsink. I removed some of the paste as I thought i might be too thick, but my temps are now higher.

I think I am going to have to sort this with some new thermal paste and re-seat tomorrow, the temps are ridiculous. At desktop currently idling at 37c with the fans at 56%. If I do anything to cause the gpu clock to increase, then it rockets to 100c.
 
Does anyone know where the temp is being read from on the card? I'm wandering whether something else is amiss in my install of the cooler.
 
By coincidence, I have just installed an Accelero Mono Plus on my reference 670. I'm seeing load temps of about 55* with the card now boosting to 1123Mhz under the Unigine Heaven benchmark.

Sounds like you have poor contact with the core onto the heatsink base as others have suggested.

I removed the stock thermal paste that was applied to the Accelero and spread Arctic Silver 5 thinly over the die instead. DO NOT use the pea or line method of application mentioned above!

Which spacers did you use when installing the cooler? I used the 2mm ones, as the 4mm ones didn't allow the die to make contact at all with the die.
 
The 2mm ones are the smallest and it sounds like contact is good.

Try again tomorrow and let us know how you get on. A screenshot from GPUZ or EVGA Precision X would be good to see how the temperatures are changing.

I didn't bother with RAM sinks.
 
Yes fans are spinning. The cooler comes with both a 3 pin and 4pin fan adapter, I used the 4 pin. How do I upload images?
