What do people think of these films? Im watching 2 tonight with a mate and we havent seen either, are they any good? Ive heard the first one had some extreme gore in it all homemade stuff on a $50,000 budget.

ive only seen the first 2

and they are both brilliant
2 is like a reimagining as it alters the story slightly but its still good

they are both very different versions of the same story. 1 is more of a horror and 2 is more of a comedy

My fav line *SPOILERS*

"We just cut up our girlfriend, with a chain saw, does that sound...fine?"

Saw II first and absolutely loved it. Then watched the first one on my own in the dark. It was a bit freaky, but coming from II i knew what to expect. THen watched it all the way thru a second time straight after the first viewing with the Raimi commentary...

CLASSICS

can anyone tell me, the first one a girl apprently gets raped by a tree, is there anything sick/sexual in the second one? Just because people who shouldnt see that stuff may be in the room.

All three are fabulous!
First is actually quite a serious horror film. Second is a remake of the first. Second and third are what they phrased as 'Splatstick'

Really wish Sam Raimi would go back to doing stuff like this instead of crap like Spiderman 3 - but only as long as Bruce is in it. :D

nah none in the second film
its not even really explicit in the first one, not that i can remember anyway and thats the kind of thing that would stick in your mind for a long time

I coulnt sleep last night so I watched the first one. qualidee.

oh and it had a budget of $350,000... not 50k ;)

Army of Darkness is one of the greatest films ever made.

"Gimmie some sugar baby"

"It got into my hand, and it went bad"

"Yo, she-bitch *****'s shottie* let's go"

:D

EDIT:

"I'll swallow your soul!"

some people say it was £350,000 (like IMDB etc) but i think thats with all the marketing and stuff, as a lot of reviews have been saying it cost £50,000 to make the film.

Theres an interview with Bruce Campbell somewhere saying they actually went round shops and other places asking for extra help funding for the very first film :)

Swear its on the special edition DVD too somewhere

Anyway love all these films

Saw the second one first and was in tears laughing all the way through, the bit where he cracks up and all the things start laughing at him like the Deers head, just brilliant

The third is also brilliant, just for comedy value alone. :D

So badly done the effects its just pure awesome. The skeleton who rides on horseback and pretty much falls off just because of how badly hes held on for the shot lol

well i saw the second one last night and it was very good, some funny stuff in there although i was expecting more gore :p Definatly going to have to see the first one.

Thats what I loved about the evil dead series, despite the all out horror and gore there was an extremely humorous element to it. Made it less of a one dimensional horror film, a type of film that seems to have become abit of a regular occurrence these days :(.

the anchor bay trilogy boxset says three hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

Raimi says three hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

but!

that money was from local people and businesses. they made a 30 minute film for like five grand and used that to drum up the money to make TED.

There used to be a chat show called Central Weekend and they had Sam Raimi on when the first Evil Dead film came out because of the content of it.
He kept saying that it was so far fetched and tongue in cheek that he couldn't believe anybody could take it serious.
He then made his second film Basket Case even more far fetched.
