I've had a hankering to play a game like Evil Genius again, so much so I'm now playing it for the 3rd time round. I tried playing Dungeon Keeper 2 again but it's getting a bit old now and the graphics are a bit lacking.

Any ideas? I was just reading another thread and Black & White 2 popped out at me. Think I might get hold of that, not sure if it fits the bill at all though?

Shame, that's the only type of game I fancy playing at the minute. Bored of everything else :p

well you could try "dwarves!" or "gnomoria" or whatever its called.

there basic in graphics and not exactly evil genius.

theres also the mighty quest for epic loot where you have a castle with different rooms and layouts , different mobs and traps that defend your treasure

you attack other peoples castles diablo style and they attack yours but it's a bit boring and online only

MQFEL is as boring as ass after one day.

There is evil genius online being made but it stinks of micro transactions which is a shame and i think its a facebook game too which is dire

So Evil Genius was the last hurrah of base management type games?

Watched Despicable Me last night and it was very reminiscent of EG (which I didn't notice the first time I watched it).

Strangely enough I was looking at these type of games yesterday due to the horrendous slating of Dungeon Keeper on the Android store (do NOT buy).

I was unable to find anything that truly stood out to be close enough to Dungeon Keeper and Evil Genius.

Arguably the mighty quest for epic loot is the closet thing, but again the micro-transaction model ruins the game play for me

I am playing Spacebase-DF9 at the moment in early alpha but its not bad, also look at Prison Architect.

I really loved Evil Genius and enjoy Gnomoria a lot for some of the same reasons. Would definitely give it a try if you enjoyed Evil Genius. There is also Maia which looks quite similar but is only in the alpha stage.

You could try Kalypso's 'Dungeons'. Very Dungeon Master inspired, but a few interesting gameplay differences. Youtube should have a few reviews.

To be fair, it isn't as good as DM (1 or 2), but it might be something to look at.

What about Overlord ? I haven't played it ever, but it's on the humble bundle thingy atm.

there is also "rimworld" which uses the same graphics as the two above games but it's not evil genius.

evil genius wasn't really a dwarf fortress kind of game imo

you can goto any forum ask about evil genius and loads of people loved it but never a sequel! WUT!

yea I did say it gets boring :P

worth a try thought I guess if you are bored and can get a beta key

Yeah, I hunted if there was any sequels in the making and came across EGO. As you say it's just not the same as it's a time based game. Certain actions can take 8 hours which isn't something that really works as a proper game.

Hmm, I'll have a look at those. I read about Prison Architect a while back but reluctant to pay for an unfinished game. What are people's thoughts on it? I'm happy to spill if people say it's good and got potential etc.

What about Overlord ? I haven't played it ever, but it's on the humble bundle thingy atm.

Got both of them, not really the same kind of thing. The first one was a lot better than the second though!

Dungeon Keeper and Evil Genius were HUGELY popular games, it actually amazes me that there are not more games like them when you consider how long it has been.

It seems if it's not CoD of Battlefield clone then it's too big of a risk for publishers these days...

Just came across this War For the Overworld https://wftogame.com/

Looks like DK vidoes on YouTube look good

It's supposed to be a spiritual successor to Dungeon Keeper. I watched TotalBiscuit's Dungeon Keeper Mobile inspired video last night, and he brings WFTO up at the end. TB is a genuine DK fan, and speaks highly of WFTO, he paid into it during the kickstarter.

Might have to buy into it on Steam
