Evil Knievel dies aged 69

Just seen this, what a shame. The guy was a pure legend and anyone in their late 20's or 30's will remember him as a kid.

Where did all the daredevils go....

RIP

Evel did jump a canyon, but he didn't hit the cliff I don't think, the parachute on his jetbikerocketplane thing deployed early and the wind carried it back on itself and it landed at the bottom of the canyon.

Used to watch a few of his jumps as a kid and whilst he certainly wasnt the greatest jumper ever it was as a showman that he excelled, the overall package of the show that he used to put on (usually followed by a decent crash :p ) made him one of the greatest showmen in all time imho

RIP Evel

I always remember having this evil knievel toy as a young lad in the 70s and it was my fave toy. You put him and his bike in this red 'thing' and wound the handle as fast as you could until the ground was trembling that much that it was recording on the governments richter scale. Then when you let go he went wheeling off at pace...often straight into the settee, wall, friends legs etc

R.I.P Evel Knievel

He was one crazy SOB, i remember a few years ago they did a Evel Knievel night on TV (i hope they show it again) and he told a story of when he was doing a show he saw a group of hells in the crowd. He landed the trick and then rode back to his trailer to get his baseball bat :p

a True legend, and remember kids

I actually saw his jump in Wembley. The ramp went right up into the stands and it was amazing to see him come down it. Considering that the stadium was full, there was complete silence. It was really eerie.

RIP - a true legend

I thought something similar when I watched the Hammond doc, a true legend for what he did do, though as was pointed out, he was more known for his failures than successes (reminded me of Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards in that regard), but as a human being, he was, unfortunatly, like many men of his age and upbringing, arrogant, and unwilling to talk about his mistakes. Any time he was asked a question that he didn't like, he cut the interview and left. Now yes, I know he was dying, but still, he did appear to be rude and obnoxious towards Richard Hammond, who was there, to meet someone that truely was a childhood hero.

Personally, I'd rather have remembered him as he was, the all american great.

You could tell Richard was disappointed that his idol wasen't a likable character. Eval era was a bit too early for me (born '76) although I do remember the eval toys, but that was in the mid 80's.

Considering Hammond was a person similar to himself (major crash) thought eval would tried to be a normal human being.

Funny how eval was against hippies, he needed some weed to chill him out..

I don't believe he was always a bad character, I think towards the end he lost it a bit, and was possibly just fed up of it all.

In short: He was ****ed
