A few people on ADSL Guide seem to think that Evolution DSL are pretty sweet atm.

8-Mbit ADSL Max for £24.99
No restrictions or throttling
1 month contract

Our Pipex expires in 1 month, and i'm thinking of signing up with Evolution. So has anybody heard anything good/bad? :)

I got an email back from Evolution. I mentioned how I'd like unlimited access to newsgroups, and they assured me that their service would not restrict me in any way..

Our phone line is activated at the new flat on March 31st, so think i'll give Evolution DSL a punt the day after :p

Ok our ADSL is now live! Only turned on on Tuesday so they still may tinker with it, but atm i'm downloading off GigaNews at an average of 675kb/s!

They said i'd be able to get around 6.5Mbits on the signup screen, and I guess i'm getting around 6Mbit at the moment.
So pretty sweet so far :D

Haven't tried any online gaming or anything, anyone want me to ping anything? :p

Well I left a few test downloads going last night..

715K/s average speed, downloaded around 13Gb in around 5 hours. It's too fast now :D

anyone tried newshostings on evolution?

That's what i've been using! Average speed of 715K/s overnight on Giganews.
Evolution doesn't have its own newsgroups.

I'm away from my connection this weekend, so I can't test it much :(

I'll be sure to try a few pings as soon as I get back. I'm still within in the initital 10 days of the line activation, so the speed will fluctuate. By this Friday it should be locked to a certain speed.

But as i've said, so far it looks quite hopeful! :D

Ok it's been 1 week since the line was activated!
For the hours of the early evening I've been averaging around 400kb/s on Giganews. But since 9pm the average speed has been rising all the time, now at 550kb/s.

Not the full 8Mbit/s, but more than enough for me! :D

I imagine in the early hours speeds will hit 800k/s odd again.

As far as i'm concerned, as long as I can get 2Mbit at any time of day then that's great. If Evolution gets so busy that they can't even offer that, then there may be a problem :(

Just came in from work, and started downloading off Giganews..
Average speed: 10k/s :(

Looks like the bubble has burst!

EDIT: Just changed to port 80 for newsgroups.. and now speed is at 450k/s.. something fishy going on..

try a different port i think giganews also works on port 23

Well fingers crossed port 80 will continue to work!

Anyone else spotting suspicious port behaviour

Hmm, ADSL connection just dropped.. reconnected straight away.. but still funny. Hope this all gets sorted out soon! :D

well its increased from about 0.0-0.1k to about 5k now... so no better really. on port 3128 to unlimited.newshosting.com

Just spotted this on Evolution's Support page:

Note 21/04/06
Support is aware of an issue with download rates on certain ports and protocols and is investigating this as a priority.

I'm hoping that the influx of users somehow overloaded something, and that they'll fix it soon..
If they were throttling then I guess they wouldn't have posted that.. maybe :p
