Evolution vs Welfare State

You do realise that selective breeding is basically the antithesis of evolution, yeah?

Not necessarily Mr Patroniser.

Maybe I need to be more clear, while it isn't the same as evolution, obviously, it could be used to improve the genetic pool in a similar way, getting rid of terrible genetic diseases such as cancer, being a retarded weakling and ugliness - just the same as evolution.

Q: Does the welfare state counteract natural selection (those who fail to adapt would otherwise die), thereby reversing or slowing the natural process of evolution? Could evolution produce greater overall wellbeing than the welfare state?

No, medical science probably counteracts that. Though I suppose you could argue things that the NHS allow those who otherwise wouldn't recieve healthcare, receive it.

The concept of a welfare state is to re-distribute wealth to those most in-need.

please add

and those who are lazy who cannot be bothered to earn a living and think otheres should privide for them to live and breed,

infact I know a few people on benefits and they are all just lazy none are "in need"

Fortunately we live in a civilised society, we dont just let people die because they dont have the means to look after themselves.

Id rather be in debt as a society than have millions of people die off when we could have done something about it.
