Evolve

Lol, got the email about the PS4 Alpha issues and redeemed a code for the XO version instead.

The fact that they specifically mention PS4 FW 2.00 and the other 2 platforms are unaffected suggests another Sony PSN screwup to add to the growing list

It suggests they didn't test the game with the new system software properly. I've seen it mentioned elsewhere that it's probably something to do with Shareplay.

Just had a few goes this morning, pretty underwhelming even for an Alpha. The idea could have been made into something very special, as it is it feels just like any other sci-fi online shooter, with everyone blasting the hell out of everything else and an on-screen mess the result.

The whole point is that 4 people blast one monster, I dunno how you've come to that conclusion :p it's nothing like any sci fi shooter ive played before, and I think it's a pretty original concept.

The game set up takes far too long, not much has been explained of the core gameplay mechanics, and the graphics are a lot worse than we were led to believe. But I can't find the game anything but fun when I actually get it to work.

Think a lot of people finding it boring aren't hunting correctly. The idea is to cut him off, to work with your team to ambush the monster; if you're just chasing after it and shooting it, you're not doing it right.

Which is exactly my point.

The way the devs want you to play the game is not how people will actually play it in the real world.

I'd love there to be more of a stealth/hunting element, but I just don't think people are disciplined enough to want to do that unless you are playing with close friends and all know the score beforehand.

Online randoms who you will mostly play with just want to run off and start shooting **** up.

It's another example of an interesting online concept that only really works under ideal or pre-staged circumstances

I played it this morning, I just don't think it works unless you are playing as a proper team. I was playing a medic and pretty much guaranteed at the start of the game everyone would run in different directions and have zero teamplay.

I expected there to be more tension but in the games I played it felt more like a run through a big map, when there was combat half of the team were nowhere to be seen or deciding to go 1v1 with the monster.

I've had it numerous times as the monster where the hunters have all guarded the power relay. Ive had it numerous times when playing as a trapper that the whole team will follow me and Daisy.

Sure people will sometimes not understand the point and go off by themselves, but so far in my experience that hasn't been often. Saying that I still don't understand how people can have a strong opinion on this game, when ive been sat here for 20 minutes trying to match make with no success......

When does the Alpha end? Ive only managed a couple fo games and was going to give it a shot tonight

I've actually been quite enjoyng this, obviously it's very simple in design at the minute but the game idea is great and makes a nice change. The monsters feel a little clunky at times though, i wonder if they'll be taking any ideas from http://www.hidden-source.com/downloads.htm as i spent quite a while playing this. The jump from first person during the people to 3rd person as a monster kinda takes the "i'm a badass monster" away from it, although the scaling of the monsters size would lose a lot of impact going first person i suppose.

Thoughts on the beta/technical test?

I've had a few games and found its okay as the hunter but when playing as the monster I feel like there isn't enough feedback from the game when attacking. I find myself swiping away at the hunters and it's not that clear if I'm hitting them or not.

I'm a bit disappointed on the whole to be honest as I was really looking forward to it.

How many people are getting this on the ps4? Shopto have just charged my card. It would be nice if they also shipped it today.

I've been playing this on the PS4 this afternoon and so far have only played the training modes and solo so I know what to do. I found it really confusing at first but now I'm getting into it and it's quite fun - off to play online soon as that's where all the fun will be :)

For those interested there is a 3GB update file to download when you get it.

Well I have to say I'm enjoying this, when you finally get put in a group with people who play their classes as they're supposed to it's good fun. There's a good bit of variation to the game modes and it's nice that you can play solo, co-op with 2 friends and a couple of bots etc or as a full group.

I've found that playing a medic in solo mode doesn't work to well as the bots don't do enough damage and/or just don't play as well.. all other classes seem fine.

I played online most of the evening and had no problems with connection etc. What I will say for those getting it is download the patch and wait for the install to complete and restart the game.. I found that playing while installing from disc caused some stuttering when there was a lot of action. After the install etc it's been fine though, no issues at all.

I wish it was a bit more gory though, you have these crazy weapons but sometimes it doesn't seem like you're doing much damage, I'd like to see more blood!

Defence is my favourite mode at the moment as it's quite fast paced and lots of fun :)
