Evo's been remapped, but...

As said. Compressor surge. Seems odd to get it on a standard turbo, even with running more boost.

My old car used to do it uphills at 2.5k in 5th but that had a different turbo to standard. It's not good for the turbo so don't do it too much, you can always try a less binary throttle to drive around it.

Sounds like compressor surge to me, not good for the turbo. I take it the turbo wastegate is solenoid controlled? is it working 100%?

Cheers guys. A new 3 port solenoid was fitted for the remap.

Just heard back from Ant. He says it's the sound of the 3 port solenoid opening and closing to control the boost at 27psi and it's completely normal.

Sorry but he's full of it, that is a compressor surge plain and simple and can be very bad news for your turbo, as has been said here already.

actually just watched the vid, shocking. Definately compressor surge. Sounds very similar to a flutter style BOV but obviously it isn't "blowing off" :p because you are WOT.

I'd get it re-mapped again, sooner rather than later!

So in that circumstance, is the turbo actually stalled whilst going flat out, or is it just the sound of air coming back out the compressor?

eitherway there must be pretty big forces involved.

The waste gate or exhaust is most likely not up to the task. Does an evo run a internal or external wastegate?

Again I do not know anything about evo's but 1.9~ bar is a lot of boost. Is the engine forged?

Am i on the OP's block list or something?

Of course the solenoid is shifting between states, its seeing boost line pressure thats going from the target limit to maybe 10psi as the compressor is stopping and starting so it is shifting significantly between duty as a consequence of the compressor surge.

Its not normal as other cars dont do it.

Can anyone remember how much boost the guy with the EVO X ran to get to 400bhp?

iirc his was still on the standard software when he did that

I've only ever seen built single turbo supras running 1.6 bar and higher. Different engines I know but surely the Evo engine is not stronger than the 2JZ?
