As said. Compressor surge. Seems odd to get it on a standard turbo, even with running more boost.
My old car used to do it uphills at 2.5k in 5th but that had a different turbo to standard. It's not good for the turbo so don't do it too much, you can always try a less binary throttle to drive around it.
Sounds like compressor surge to me, not good for the turbo. I take it the turbo wastegate is solenoid controlled? is it working 100%?
Just heard back from Ant. He says it's the sound of the 3 port solenoid opening and closing to control the boost at 27psi and it's completely normal.
So in that circumstance, is the turbo actually stalled whilst going flat out, or is it just the sound of air coming back out the compressor?
eitherway there must be pretty big forces involved.
The waste gate or exhaust is most likely not up to the task. Does an evo run a internal or external wastegate?
Again I do not know anything about evo's but 1.9~ bar is a lot of boost. Is the engine forged?
1.7bar = 24.6 psi.
That is not a healthy map / setup and something needs changing / fixing.
