Hey, is there a file system that i can format my 2 ex hdds to that will simply do its job plugged into osx and windows...

I want to copy loads of files from a windows computer straight to the mac by obviously copying them onto a hdd.. its formatted in hfsj and its only reads on windows using macdrive.. i cant write to it... i can only read and write on osx..

depends how big your file sizes are, if you need to transfer large files (> 4.5 Gigs) then probably better off keeping it HFS and installing Macdrive on your windows unit. Thats what i do. If you don't use big files then FAT32 works well.

Yeah was going to say that. tbh a NAS could be better option, as partition type on the HD itself is irrelvent. There is no partition type that is fully supported on all OS's (linux, Windows, Mac) afaik when files are >4GB

Its all dvd rips :(

250gb worth that needs to be copied to a windows machine...

even with macdrive it says the drive is write protected.

I need to copy some dvd rips from the windows to the drive too... i cant store them temporalily anywhere either as there is no machine with a big enough hdd :p

Mac drive will say a disk is write-protected if it's not unmounted from the mac properly before plugging it into the PC. Try plugging it back into the mac and then drag it down onto the rubbish bin to unmount.

Having the drive formatted to HFS+ and using MacDrive on the Windows end is my preferred way of doing this, never had any issues with it being read-only either.
