Quick question if anybody knows the answer...

In the EAC options you can set the number of simultaneous external compressor threads. Is it worth changing that from 1 to 2/4 for dual/quad core CPUs or best just to let it work on the one thread?

it'll do multiple compressions then

i set mine to 4, that way it finishes doing the LAME section a lot quicker

Hmm. I just tested it using FLAC and it didn't seem to have a noticeable effect either way.

Ah well. :)

It only seems to make a difference if it's ripping faster than it's encoding. The only time I've seen it open multiple encoder threads is if the track is short otherwise it tends to finish encoding before the next track is ripped anyhow.

Won't really make a difference since the bottleneck is getting the tracks off the CD in the first place. The previous encoding job finishes way before the next one is ready to start.

the biggest difference you'll see is in letting EAC rip the next track before the current track has finished encoding, which is switched off by default. this is automatically switched on if you choose 2 or more external compressor threads anyway:)
