Hi,

I've got an exam tomorrow, and like most people on my course I'm trying to cram in as much revision as I can last minute. A fair few are in the same boat.

The exam is in Biochemistry, the exam is worth 50% of the module! It's my 2nd year too, and this is the first test I've had, the rest has been coursework. These exams actually count for something now - I'm a bit worried!

The exam is at 2pm tomorrow, any advice from people who are actually organised / put a bit more effort into revision?

I've got the main topics, and I've got all the content from the course - I'm simply writing out stuff in my own words.

Any other ways/methods and tips/advice?

The nerves are starting to kick in :(

Yeah I'm planning on getting to sleep by about 10.30pm. Going to sit in bed from 9.30-10.30 and look over notes on my laptop.

Get up at about 8 or 9am and head into university at about 10am, and sit in the library and refresh myself on some stuff.

good luck.

Thanks, I need more than luck though!

My advice was to always start revising well before the exam period constructing useful revision notes. I used a hierarchical kind of technique so the full course was condensed into 1-15pages, then further compressed to 4-4 and then a single A4 side. This helps recall. memorising a few key words and pointers should allow you access to more detailed information stored deeper in your brain.

Furthermore, never study for extened periods. Rests are the key. Concentration span of the best humans are about 15-18 minutes. The brian tires quickly within an hour or so, afterwhich productivity will decrease and less stuff can be remembered.

Before an exam it is always better to be well rested and relaxed. Cramming the night before doesn't work too well.

Echo getting sleep.

Try not to sit in bed and revise as you may find it hard to shut off once ready for sleep.

I just wrote and re-wrote my notes, over and over again. I went through two A4 paper pads for my last exams! Also, write yourself some mini questions to test yourself.

Try reading a section and then writing it out without looking.

good luck :D

As others have said get a decent nights sleep. Also have a proper breakfast tomorrow and a decent lunch otherwise you'll be on a sugar low by the exam and feel bad.

I always found that to much revision on the day of the exam had a detrimental effect on the amount I remembered. May be look over some past papers and work through a few questions but don't push it. If possible look over things with some friends who are on the course to help you relax a bit while doing them, (unless your friends are panic'ers in which case try not to let them get you worried).

Seriously, don't do any more than 6 hours sleep. Its a waste, and you can sleep after the exam. Have lots of coffee/red bull/etc. You're a biochemist, you should know the wonders of these products ! Cram cram cram .

Yeah I'm off to bed now, gnna read for about 30mins and do some quick questions.

Tomorrow I'll take the revision easy, create a couple of exam questions for myself.

My mates are people who panic, I don't normally until they start going crazy.

After the exam I have Kickboxing at 5pm so I'll get some stress out if it was a tough exam.

Thanks ppl. I'll say how it went tomorrow!

Are you trying to make me fail? :p

I'll cram tomorrow. I wont take in everything I read if I cram tonight, it'll be a waste of time.

sleeping always best idea, quite funny really, If you are lucky like me you wake up with your brain already hard at work and know more than you went to bed with. quite mad.
