My sister needs to give a presentation of some outlandish new technology which her lecturer wouldn't have heard of, and she asked me for some suggestions, which she could research.

I actually can't think of anything, so I was wondering if you guys could help out with some suggestions :)

There was this thing they invented last year... it's pretty cool. You could tell her to use that.

I don't know how outlandish it has to be or how much the lecturer knows but she could go with something like Light Peak from Intel (although its based on fibre optics so may not be considered that new) . Should be easy to research and I doubt many people who are not into computer know about it.

Self assembling carbon nanotube semiconductors on a DNA scaffold? (Potential for self assembly of tiny processors)

A heldheld automated halal / kosher product tester for Muslim / Jewish faiths.

I'd imagine it looks like one of those devices which check behind walls for metal etc.

You'd be able to flick a switch between the two, rest it on a product such as a lamb chop and it would flash a green light if it was halal / kosher.

Electronic closed circuit rebreather? While not exactly new, the technology has improved greatly in the last couple years and i doubt the lecturer will have heard of it unless they are a diver
