I've just met a problem with one of my Excel data files. It's a file that I have open almost all the time, am frequently updating, and usually close it just before closing the system down at night.
A short time ago, the file disappeared from the list of files that had been open in Excel. I guess I must've closed it by mistake, so tried reopening it. Nothing happened. The file certainly exists, and is correctly named, with the correct extension. I've tried rebooting, with no improvement. If I click on the filename when in the appropriate place in MyDocuments, the system certainly recognises it as an Excel file, it opens up Excel, but doesn't bring in the document.
However, Excel thinks the document is open. I've confirmed this by making a copy of the document, giving it the same name, but in a different folder.
If I try to open one, Excel comes in, with no file. If I then try to open the copy, Excel compains that I cannot do that as I've already got one file open with the same name.
I've checked Properties, and nothing seems amiss.
Excel is still working satisfactorily with other spreadsheet files.
Does anyone have any idea what might have happened? Or, has anyone any other suggestions I might try?
