Does anyone know where I can buy just Excel for a Mac? I need a spreadsheet program with the higher level functions that Excel offers (for engineering calculations) and NeoOffice/Appleworks don't come up to the mark.

I already use Filemaker for databae, Pages and Keynote for documents and presentations and I don't need Entourage, so I just need Excel.

Ta, you know I looked through the software section of Apple's site and could only find the full Office suite. There is me using the great Spotlight feature all the time in OS X yet didn't think to us ethe search funtion on the website.

Doh! :o :)

Thanks again.

When I looked, the whole of Office wasn't much more than just buying Excel :p

Word is also a million times better than Pages... although Keynote is much better than Powerpoint.

I know what you mean but the whole office suite costs £349 which is £149 more for stuff that I won't use. I disagree with your comments on Pages though, as well as the usual letters etc. I also write a lot of reports that include photos and Pages wipes the floor with Word for those types of documents.

I can see iWork growing into a really good all round office/publishing suite in the future.

Get the "academic version" of Office from Amazon for £95.

Office Mac for Students and Teachers Edition 2004

They don't ask.
Too late. :(

Does anyone ever get asked and if they do ask, and you are not a student, what happens then? I was always taught honesty was a virtue. :o

I was an academic at the time... but they didn't ask.

They also give you three licences with the Student Pack. Handy for multiple machines... or friends ;-)

Why pay £100 for software if you are going to use it against the license terms anyway? You might as well download it if you don't care and save yourself £100.

Buying an academic version when you don't qualify is just as against the license as getting it off your favourite torrent site.
