Any idea why this following formulae is working for the first 2 cells, then afterwords it is just displaying NUM? Its just been dragged down using the copy function - so everything is in place?

Check your formula, you are trying to find the square root of a negative number.

I think he was joking, in reference to the OP's current formula already doing something equally impossible*.

Or he was being serious and I am looking too much into this!

*Using standard mathematics and none of the imaginary numbers cobblers!
