Hey peoples,

Just a quick one, Im self taught in excel and stuff. knowledge isn't extensive but enough to make pretty looking reports and spreadsheets.

One thing i have never looked into though is protecting Cells.

I have spent the entire day putting different formula into my sheet and wonder is it possible to protect certain cells from being edited?

I only want people entering data into 3 areas of each table. and know for a fact they will mess about or get it wrong.

I dont want the entire thing locked from editing just bits i choose.

So is it possible?

Also if i do it on Excel can it be replicated onto Open office 3, yes sadly my work uses it,

Edit: I have tied going into format and protecting, hidden. and still lets people change the fields

Select any cells you don't want to be protected and go to:

Format - Cells - Protection - Untick 'Locked'

Now go to:

Tools - Protection - Protect Sheet

The 'unlocked' cells are edittable and the rest are locked.

Not sure about compatibility with OO3 though, sorry.

Ahh, you cant do it in Open orofice. Ahh well its free for a reason.

I was only asked to create it not maintain it so will keep a back up for when they all make a James BLunt of it.

Cheers for the help
