Guys,

Does anyone have an idea how I would do the following:

Users send an email to <any fax number>@companyfax.com

This email is then copied, retaining the header to @anotherfaxcompany.com

We have Exchange 2007.

I've attempted setting up transport rules but can't seem to see one that would do the above, - I guess I need to
use some funky OPath filtering?

Thanks

Am totally with you, I have to do this with a few mailboxes myself.

This is how I do it, it may not be the right way but it works:

1. In Exchange 2007 Management Console, expand the Recipient Configuration section opne
2. Right click on Main Contact, and click on New Mail Contact
3. In the New Mail Contact window, create a New Contact putting in all there relevant details, external e-mail address etc
4. Once new mail contact is created, go to the mailbox you want to forward the mail from
5. Click on the Mail Flow Settings tab, and double click Delivery Options
6. Put a tick in the box next to the Forward to, then hit Browse and select the New Mail Contact that you just created.
7. You also have the option below the Forward to, to deliver messages to both the original mailbox and the forwarding address or just to the forwarding address.

Hope this helps and makes sense :)

Hmmmmm i see your problem now, not sure what the solution would be though unfortunately.

Not even sure where to begin trying to solve the problem, especially if you don't know where you need to forward the mail to. Is there something in the incoming mail subject or message body that dictates where the mail needs to be forwarded on to?

If that's the case, and forgive me if I'm being dumb here it is Friday after all, why cant you just do as I suggested then e.g.:

Internal Mailbox: [email protected]
Mail Contact Forwarder: [email protected]

Or if its an incoming mail from an external source that you want to forward, can you not just setup a mail rule to forward it that way?

Well in the short term we have requested the othercompany allow us to relay from them, and then have set a new DNS zone with an MX record that points to them. We have then set up a new send connector for that domain.

If they agree I guess that will do, however it would be nice to know how to do this via transport rules.
