Hi,

Cant get my newly built exchange server to pop3.

The dns for mail.ifeservices.com is pointing towards the right ip address and the firewall routes pop traffic to the exchange box, but clients fail to authorise to the server.

any ideas?

also, my webmail (non https for the moment) gives a 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.

Even though it did not prompt for permissions.

POP3 is SSL secured by default - it's on a different port.

OWA is also SSL secured by default, the 403 occurs when accessing by HTTP.

i have checked those settings and the relevant ports on the firewall is opened.

the pop connections find the server but it then gets rejected :(

owa is now working :)

update on pop3 - managed to get it a bit further now, when i create a pop3 account in outlook and test the settings it prompts for a username and password, both are correct yet it just doesnt go anywhere and then pops up with the username and password again.

little help pls

right,

its now recieving email through pop3 but wont send out :(

says it can not contact my mailserver

please oh please some one help :(

You'll send out through SMTP, not POP3. And that'll need to be setup to allow authentication in some way, as by default it's not going to allow relaying (else you'd be a spammers dream!). I'm not sure how, as I've never done it. www.msexchange.org has a lot of good guides on all sorts of things.

Why are you using POP3 anyway? Using Outlook/Entourage as it was intended would be far less hassle, as it's already setup for that. It also offers a lot more functionality.

we have satellite offices abroad that need to pop download.

im really puzzled as to what setting could be stopping the outgoing connection, im convinced its some kind of ssl setting somewhere.

By default, I would imagine SMTP will be set up not to relay anything (or at least, it was in Ex03). You'll need to either set it up to be allowed by IP or by user authentication. And knowing Ex07, it'll probably be SSL secured by default.

OutlookAnywhere (or RPC over HTTP) is pretty much a one-click setup. It works over HTTPS (port 443), and would enable Outlook to be used as intended (in cached exchange mode) for any roaming user.

our satellite offices were hooked into pop before (for years) on crap Kerio, they need to unite their old server email with the new server.
