Hi,

I would like to setup some kind of mechanism in exchange were a certain email address coming into my exchange server would not get delivered to the person it is meant to get delivered to but get sent to a distribution group and its members.

any idea how to do this?

Into the Active Directory "Users & Computers" and then open the object for the user/e-mail address you want to redirect.

Exchange General Tab
Delivery Options Button
Forwarding Address Option (Check Forward to check-box)
Click "Modify" button and select the Distribution group from the Active Directory
Click "OK" then "Apply"

Result:

E-mail is sent to the users whose object you've just modified.
The message is automatically forwarded to the distribution group you specified and no longer to the mailbox of the user.
Unless you also check the "Deliver message to both forward address and mailbox" option.

thanks for the reply.

however not quite what im after :( that would end up sending all email to that user to the distribution group.

basically what i need is when an external person with a certain email address (i have a list of these email addresses) try to email this person then it will automatically be sent to the distribution group. What you have said there will send ALL email sent to that person to a distribution group?

I need to set specific incoming email addresses to go to this distribution group.

You could set up a rule from the Outlook of the recipient to forward the email to the group, but the email would still go to the original recipient.

Failing that you could set up a group and email the relevent senders and notify them of the change in email address.

is there a way to setup that forwarding to a distribution group will only happen for a user that recieves an email from a specific email address?

that would be adequate i think, no forwarding except for a specific email address/s.

In a word, no.

Just remove the address from the users account and add it onto the distribution group.

Put it back alter if you need to.

Make sure the recipient update service doesn't automatically put the address back on (untick the box for this)

add "permanently delete message" to the rule

(afaik you can have multiple actions for a message)
