Hi,

I have recently installed Exchange 2007 but had to format the server for several reasons. I now have the server back up and running and am trying to reinstall exchange however when I run the setup, I get the error:

Exchange 2007 Setup said:
The Exchange Server is in an inconsistent state. Only disaster recovery mode is avaliable

Anyone have any ideas how I can install exchange?

Thanks for any help

Ben

Did you uninstall Exchange before formating? As it ties into AD and will have left all the rubbish behind if you just trashed the box.

Wasn't possible to uninstall as I couldn't get into windows on the exchange server :( Anything I can do to get it to install properly or have I got to bin the domain? :(

Thanks for the help,

Ben

Have a rummage around the MS site as there are instructions for removing a defunct Exchange server (at least for 2003) as you need to use ADSI Edit to strip out the details of the data store etc. You can use a different machine name but its going to confuse the situation as you'll end up with stuff thats install on the 1st Exchange server being located on a defunct box.

i do believe there is actually a /disasterrecovery switch you can use when you run setup? i don't know if that's much use..... :p

pretty sure exchange 2007 implements itself into AD the same way 2003 does

Hmm pretty sure wouldn't be good enough for me. Particulary if it was a production environment.

Unfortinately, documentation for 2007 in a production environment is severaly lacking
I had assumed from the comment

That this was a test environment.
