Get an aural glimpse of AMD TrueAudio technology in the upcoming game LICHDOM (http://www.lichdom.com) - a single-player, first-person action game with an emphasis on role-playing and crafting spells. The game takes players on an adventure of godly proportions, pitting humans against the forces of worldly decay: corruption, greed, and decadence. Wielding magic like a weapon across vast, unpredictable and mythical landscapes, players face cunning enemies and daunting challenges in a battle for the ultimate prize: control of the world and everything in it.

AMD TrueAudio technology introduces a new level of immersion. GPUs aren't just for graphics any more. With more acoustic bandwidth and capabilities for developers to play with, plus a healthy slug of extra audio performance, you get a richer in-game soundscape. You'll hear your opponents coming with breathtaking audio realism. It's your game taken to an entirely new dimension. Radeon™ is faster. Radeon is immersive. Radeon is gaming.

**AMD TrueAudio™ technology is offered on select AMD Radeon™ R9 and R7 200 Series GPUs and is designed to improve acoustic realism. Requires an enabled game or application. Not all audio equipment supports all audio effects; additional audio equipment may be required for some audio effects. Not all products feature all technologies—check with your component or system manufacturer for specific capabilities.

Stereo is better. From that video. When they did the fireplace bit it sounded behind me when they used the new thing while the video showed the fireplace in front on the right a little bit.

Hard to judge it from that video tbh i found one of the earlyer videos to have a nicer effect

Good find though humbug :)

Youtube is only Stereo :D Youtube dont support Multi Channel.

It suppose to be simulated multi channel it isnt actual multi channel is it the new thing? Its more like dolby surround isnt it?

Anyhow regardless if its suppose to be showing multichannel then why did the OP post a utube video of it?

Also why is this really something ppl want, surely a 20 quid asus dg soundcard like i have is much better than this trueaudio stuff.

It's subtle but that is kind of the point, of lot of immersion is the subtle differences.

It's not the best video, nor new, they showed this demo aaaaggess ago when then first talked about True Audio properly.

The lightning bolt thing circling you can definitely feel the up and down change, it's probably the most noticeable of all three effects IMHO.

The fireplace was horizontal all the time but there is a subtle difference. In normal stereo there is a bit change as it switches from left to right channel as it passes behind you, but there is very little change as the turn happens within each channel(so from behind to the left all the way to just to the left infront of you sounds very similar. With Trueaudio you can feel more "steps" in the direction, it's like the sound changes in say 90 degree chunks in stereo and 20 degree chunks in true audio. it's smoother but very subtle.

The arrow, maybe I need to hear it more times or get used to it but it was barely different, the least noticeable, which is a shame. It's not the best demo as the guy is only one floor up, maybe a custom made map/demo in which someone was at the top of a tower, someone at the middle and someone at the bottom would show it off better. Or if you were much closer to that building then maybe if it was someone shooting right next to you or right above you would be more noticeable and give you that split second reaction where you turn to shoot and aim towards the first floor.

At the time none of them were the best demos but there is certainly a noticeable if subtle difference.

Games with more height difference and varying angles you can be shot/attacked from are likely to be improved more.

Before watching I thought it was the multi channel Demo they showed so you can ignore my reply. This was Stereo demo.

true
But not everyone has a spare slot for a sound card and/or doesnt want one doesnt know about them

I've still yet to hear in-game audio immersion better than my headset (link below) with it's audio processing module or from my Xonar D2X 7.1 sound card, but I admit I'm no audio expert/enthusiast.

7.1 virtual surround, It works very good used a couple headset and I have the same sound card superb. I now use a Roccat True 5.1 and can never go back to stereo or virtual. For me its that good. :D

Like other 3D/positional audio systems this will get better with time, the more developers play with it the better they will get in using the effects and features that this system brings to the table. Give it time.

Great thread Humbug.:)

Any similar souncards be it entry level/high end/high end headsets with virtual audio processing modules can't replicate the True Audio effect.

Anyone that used the original Creative Hardware accelerated X-Fi souncards on game supported titles-BF2 and Stalker knows power True Audio can bring to games, it takes sound to a whole different level.

BF2 was amazing, the immersion really sucked you right into the battle, Stalker was the killer title for me due to the nature of the Stalker world using the sound stage/tech combination was sublime.

I can't rate the experience enough, probably the best game I have played that had me totally engrossed from start to finish, that game wouldn't have hit the heights it took me too if it wasn't for this tech.

Like other 3D/positional audio systems this will get better with time, the more developers play with it the better they will get in using the effects and features that this system brings to the table. Give it time.

The only problems so far is, it's underused in Thief-although supposedly level 7 is where it's at, but that's a disappointing from Nixxes as they under used it.

Lichdom doesn't have TA available in the current build either-it is a graphically fantastic looking title even though it's still in it's early alpha form though, high rez textures are very crisp running on Cryengine.

It's early days yes, but AMD needs to push it, I haven't heard any announcements of future titles and they need proper full fat TA implementation titles-not just future lazy bolt ons either.

TA really needs a hard push with much more titles with release day implementation by AMD or it won't come to much.
