A useful skill, especially in an office environment. If you're a seasoned pro, or just starting out it's always nice to have a few pre-defined phrases for when someone's so not worth your time that wit is redundant. Use these wisely - they're open source, too so modify them if you wish.

Had those in an email a few times.

Being condescending is more about the tone and delivery of the comment than the comment itself, anyway. Good effort though son.

I'd seen some of those comments a few times as well. I'd agree about the tone and delivery, but I think content can be given a lot more credit as subtlety is a large part of condescension for me. Nice of you to post, though

It isn't a problem, but next time you want to post a thread on linguistics and specifically condescension you might want to run it by me first. I'll let you know how it reads.

You do know that people are now going to use these against you:p:D

This is a repost but I can imagine it's quite hard for someone of your basic functional intelligence to use something as advanced as a search function anyway.

I'll be sure to run all new threads by you then - that way we can be sure none of them go over your pretty little head

:D

(I did search, but the word condescending comes up so much on this forum - must be the staff)

buddy, pal, mate, son

any term of friendship when you're not really friends with them is a great way to condescend.

Yeah they're good buddy and pal are quite subversive, "son" or "sonny" can be a bit too obvious.

just a shame there's not an equivalent for girls - love works quite well, but it's nowhere near as good as son

if you do it right, the person won't even spot it! :D

Yeah, love is OK but then around here it isn't uncommon to hear it normally.

Pet/petal might work.

petal is genius! hahaha, I can just hear you saying that as well! I wish I were northern - being condescending would be so much easier
