Exhaust hangers

Hi guys,

Just a quicky...

Since lowering my car, the exhaust has taken a battering and has now started blowing where the cat joins the centre pipe. It also seems to sit lower as when I pull onto the drive at home, it scrapes so much :(

Anyway, picked up my new exhaust while at Combe yesterday. It's a Scorpion stainless system with de-cat and I don't want to fit it until I can get hold of some raised hangers to stop me damaging this exhaust.

Had a look on Demon Tweeks but not sure which size to get.

I'll measure the original hangers when I get home, but just wondering if anyone on here could suggest anything?

Cheers guys.

Get poly ones and they won't perish and fall off like the rubber ones do. I think it's the old rubber stretching that makes the exhaust sag. Also remember the exhaust rots from the inside out and when the pipes get old and thin they bend and droop which doesn't help. A nice new one might well sit a lot higher.

Sounds very low unless you've been hitting speed humps too fast. :P
Can you not use different holes etc on the ones you've got?
I had trouble with the poly ones, had to cut them down as there is really no "give" at all and it can be nigh on impossible to get them on the damn exhaust!

Cheers for the help guys.

Jonny, I guess the rubber could be stretching as when I go over speedbumps, the exhaust used to scrape a little (pushing it up) and then dropping it back down, which meant the hangers had to take the weight of the exhast again.

In the last week or two since the exhaust has started blowing, the exhaust just seems to be getting caught loads more. I used to go over speedbumps on the way home from work, but always slowed right down... although did still catch it a few times.

It's mainly when pulling onto the driveway at the house... it scrapes as soon as you get half of the car on, whereas before it would just scrape a tiny bit as you went over the curb.

D4VE, see this thread for pictures of the car after it was lowered. I reckon there's only a couple of inches of ground clearance at the centre pipe.

I've got to drop some alloys off at a friends house this week, and he said he had some polyhangers I could have a gander at, so I'll see what they're like. He said they're the same ones in the link above.

Thanks again.

Yeah thats pretty low. Ive had 2 lowered cars - 414SLi and a GTE16v and I didnt have those problems. The GTE was low at the rear, but perhaps overall it wasnt as low as your car.

The stainless exhaust will be heavy, perhaps the poly bushes are a good idea :)

BTW, I got another 420 turbo the other week, its great to have a Rover turbo again

 Any pics/info on the 420? It isn't caribbean blue with snazzy 17" alloys is it? A guy from Rovertech put his on eBay recently. FMIC and 282mm brake conversion!

There are a set of hangers on eBay which are stated as being for Fords, but they look exactly like the ones on my car. If I can scrape some money together I might buy them... can't complain for £7.

No pics yet, but Ill get some and post them soon.
Its not that car. This is standard in your colour, which is much nicer than the racing green I had before

Bigger wheels and brakes are going to be the first mods. The car was pretty cheap and has a couple of things to sort out (blowing manifold or exhaust somewhere), but Im loving it so far!
HG was done recently by the previous owner. :D

Might aswell go for those hangers mate, they are cheap.
