Hi,

The previous owner of my 205 fitted a 4-2-1 stainless manifold and full stainless exhaust system to it.

The exhaust only has the rear silencer on it, the rest is just straight pipe - and its LOUD.

Now, i'm wondering if getting a centre box fitted/welded in would help with getting rid of some of the noise? And if so, Is it possible, or would I need to buy a new centre section with a box on?

Thanks :)

If it's standard bore (which is should be, bigger bore = less power) then you could just source a standard middle box and do a little bit of work.

Most decent exhaust places will do it.

Some will tell you that you need a new system, which is rubbish, they'll jsut want more money.

Or, if you can find a centre box (scrappy/ebay etc) then take it to someone who can weld (and you trust!). Works out a lot cheeper.

Can't really get a centre box out the scrappy's, the whole system is stainless.

Called Longlife - they would want about £60-80 for it - does that sound reasonable?

bigger diameter = less power? I think not. Certainly, the power might shift up in the powerband a tad but peak HP should increase.

rip it off then go pay mr Pug dealer a wad of cash for a very nice standard original system (best exhaust for the car)

Power band does move up, but often shrinks = slower overall. If you use bigger bore there are other things to change.

Yeah well I'm used to hondas...where most of the power is up top anyway so I'm not sure all of the same principles strictly apply to pugs as well. :)

I've been a member on there for nearly 2 years thanks :)

I can't really afford to get a complete new system, plus I've read (funnily enough, on 'pug forums') that the standard manifold is quite restrictive.

And have you heard my exhaust?
