Afternoon all,

I have had an interview for a Chemical Engineering role dealing mostly with decontamination and chemical clean up. During the end of the first interview they said I should consider what level of salary I would like to start on but I have no idea.

The job will be based in Germany and initially be on a reduced salary for training, but post training what should I consider asking for?

Any advice would be appreciated. My background is Mathematics but A levels in Chemistry.

I'm assuming this is a first job out of uni, so a graduate role? In which case it is a bit odd that the salary is not at a set level.

You say contamination and clean up, but do you have more details on what type of industry this is a associated with?

Do you have a masters degree or PhD?

In fact reading that last sentence has confused me, do you have a degree in Chemical Engineering? Or just A-levels?

I would say minimum wage but then you said Germany so that rules that out.
Cant you look on recruitment sites with similar roles and a decent hiring routine that offer you a bit of dignity before saying yes.

I'm seeing between 21k and 28k starting... So id expect the middle of that.

The median salary for UK chemical engineers is £57,000 rising to £73,000 for Chartered Chemical Engineers who are regarded as professional 'high-fliers'. The average graduate starting salary is £28,500. (Source: IChemE Salary Survey 2016)

/Google.

Yes this is a bit confusing - If it is a true Chemical Engineering job then I am surprised if they are looking for people without a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Nice to know I am outside the data range then, IChemE salary data is bobbins again.
Don't have data for Germany but the graduate rate the IchemE is quoting is a little higher than we paid ours. That said Oil and Gas aint paying the big bucks right now.

I'm also confused by the first post, what are the roles and responsibilities? Engineer is a protected title in Germany so qualifications are important.
When i worked in the US i want allowed to call myself an Engineer cause i didn't have my PE status in Texas and had to remove it from all my e-mail sigs.

Apologies for the incohirrant OP.

The job is working for a chemical engineering company in Germany which specialises in decontamination.

The title of the role is
Project management, maintenance of plants also electronically, customer contacts, R & D chemical engineering program.

I don't have a chem engineering background, just the maths.

The company is called http://www.artea-gmbh.de/ though all in German.
