Expensive oils?

Good point :) I'll get it stamped and just make sure the mileages/time between future services is in relation to what is specified in the service book.

why go thicker in the summer?

The sheep/peer thang with other people doing it.

Summer temperatures on track, would the 5/40 be as good? But is the 10 too much for winter? Its certainly not manufacturer spec.

Oil analysis results over 70K's on silkolene 10/50 have been positive so I'm going to stick with the above.

VW recommend 10w-40 semi for mine. i used millers 10w-40 semi for ages then one morning this winter i was topping it up and it came out of the bottle like treacle lol

i decided to move to 5w-40 millers fully synth, 5w to be that bit thinner for the winter. having seen both at almost 0*C, there is basically no obvious difference in how thick they are, but the thinner fully synth warms faster.

ive never been tempted to change the hot viscosity tho
