It is the US, wait until it happens, someone comes out braindamaged, would have otherwise died, will sue for the costs of lifelong care they now require, or similar.
Better off dead etc, quality of life, loss of limbs.
Wait until consent gets asked for use of experimental procedures without a signed document.

If you read the article, it mentions the opt-out option online for local residents.
 
I recall watching a documentary several years ago about surgeons in Russia being forced to use a similar technique to carry out heart surgery, due to a lack of the proper anaesthetics brought about by the Soviet collapse in the early 90's.
 
This idea has been floating around for a fair while. Here's a good short documentary on it that picks up a few bonus points that the new scientist article missed out on.
 
Nice to see it finally coming to human trials.
Anyone see the super oxygenated syringes as well, bloody awesome stuff. Just by pass the lungs an inject a patient to give you time.
