O.k I have a Samsung 40" LCD HD TV (one with the red fading to black). I have several picture size settings, Just scan, 16:10, Zoom etc.
To fill my widescreen TV with a DVD/Blu-ray picture I need to have it set to Zoom, but this makes everyone look tall and thin. The best settings is 16:10 but this means I have Black lines top and bottom.

Is there any fix?

Yep... and youll notice the image displayed is in the same ratio of the one displayed with letterbox on our 16:9 tv :)

It's best to look at your output resolution on your DVD/ Blu-ray player. For my brothers he has to set it to 480i to stretch to the whole screen. It depends on the movie really. Some movies come in ultra-wide letter box so I can understand the need to stretch the image. Unless of course you have one of the new Philips beauties :D

i love the way we bash people who 'should know better'. sometimes i think people here forget that others arent going to be quite so technically minded as us.

There should be an FAQ on use the damn SEARCH button. It amazes me that someone can come on a forum not knowing anything, when using your initiative and that place called google will give you all the backround reading and answers you could ever want. Then gladly come on here for further advice and discussion, but just trying to answer the same thing over and over agan does get tiresome ;)

i noticed - you didnt actually answer anything in this thread.

My parents can't turn a PC on or tune a TV and they know that films usually don't fill the entire screen, you don't have to be technically minded to be able to see. :p

and do they know why? not that it makes any difference, im sure you'd answer yes anyway....

dont get me wrong, its very easy to search and people should do so. but if all you can be bothered to do is insult the OP then dont bother replying. it doesnt make good reading for the rest of us or the OP.
