Explain Yourselves.

I do 3D modelling/texturing and mapping for a German based game design company called Eastern Sphere.

Right now we're working on a FPS tactical MMO shooter focussing on realism, teamplay and clan tournaments. The game is set in 2029 and is licensed on a popular FPS engine but I cannot disclose which engine exactly right now.

I use Blender for modelling and unwrapping them import into 3DS Max for texturing and exporting into the game models. Photoshop for texturing.

I do all that work over the net and until we are signed with a publisher (going to be signed very soon with a well known publisher :) ) I don't get paid. To survive I'm doing some photographing and photoshopping work for a local furniture stores online brochure.

Thanks.. it's definitely quite a risky thing to do but if it works out then it'll mean I've got a way into the game design industry which is what I've always wanted to do. If it doesn't work out then the last 2 years of work that myself and the other dozen or so team members have put in is wasted.

However both the publisher and the licensee were fascinated by our game design document and the short presentation for it. We've got some pretty novel ideas that it seems most major game companies are too afraid to try implementing. They like to stick with the well known working methods. We're taking those methods and expanding them and throwing in a whole load of suggestions from the team and the clan "K04" that we're closely affiliated with. The game name actually shares the clan name :)

I mess around on photoshop and make wallpapers mainly to make for freinds
thats ages if rendering a huge wallpaper
Game on cod2/bf2 and in Yr11 so lots of cw and GCSE

I know this is in totally the wrong section and sort of off topic but with the talk of games/editors/3dsmax/photoshop I can't help myself :o

I'm going to be doing Games Tech next year (hopefully) and am loking for an under 15.4" laptop with enough grunt to comfortably run 3dsmax, UnrealEd 3/4, Maya and other such applications for level design/modeling. Will need to be under £1000 or as cheap as possible.

There are plenty of 15.4" and above at that price, but I'd really want to take it to my lectures generally go places with it so it needs to be smaller.

Anyone got any reccomendations?

Just make sure its dual core with atleast a 7800 or equivalent. If you can find a mobile dual core with 4mb L2 cache then all the better. Preferably over 2Ghz as well as you probably can't overclock a laptop because of heat.

It's pretty much impossible to find anything above a 1600 or a 7600 in an under 15.4" :(

To be honest I'd make do with a 7600/x1600 if I could find one under £900.

you want to be looking at the small business section (prices just exclude vat) at dell, more 3ds suited :)

go look at the dell precision range they can easily cope with most of the things youre going to be throwing at it (probably need a ram upgrade though)
