So I have (or had) a wireless 360 controller for windows with the wireless adapter. I bought a plug and play kit so I don't have to keep changing batteries.

I was playin GTAIV last night, so this morning I put the controller on charge, whilst I went out. When I got back I found my controller wasn't working. Then I fiddled with the plug and play connector thinking it was out of battery and hadn't been charging properly and eventually started working again. Played with it for about half an hour and then it stopped again. Tried putting AA batteries in instead, still no luck. After a while of aimlessly fiddling i put the charget back in and left it.

Just now I heard a pop and now theres a burning smell comming from the controller. I just got a new mobo and have charged it before on my old mobo with no problems. Has something gone wrong to cause this or was it just not designed to power off a pc usb port?

Whats the best way to contact microsoft about hopefully getting a replacement?

sounds like your mobo might be putting out wrong voltages? be careful what else you plug into it

i use the same thing and have no problems. (i can even charge it from the 5v usb on the routor lol)

I was thinkin that, now I'm worried but nothing else is acting strange. I suppose there isn't a bios option for setting that. I sent a ticket to microsoft but decided to leave out that I plugged it into a pc :p

Is there anyway to test what voltage my mobo is putting through the usb ports and how much should it be putting out?
