So, whilst I was in kitchen this evening the lightbulb in hallway either exploded or imploded shattering glass everywhere.

I have no idea if the switch is in the on or off position now, and a bit concerned safety wise. I don't want to touch it even with pliars and I never mess with electricity.

However, if I leave it exposed in the socket wont it be dangerous i.e start a fire if some gas or something gets in contact?

I think the fillimint might have gone and came in contact with the glas I don't know but it's just the glas that shatters everywhere the rest of the bulb is in the light ceiling socket.

Earliest I can get a family member to sort it would be Saturday. Is that to long?

You can't change a light-bulb?

Yes, but I don't know if the light is on or off and there is broken glass bits still there.

I also have no pliars, which I have used in other rooms when lights have failed, but I defo known the switch was in the off position.

Ceiling cat might have nibbled some wires. :p

Do you normally have clouds of gas floating about your house? Can't remember if the light was off or not? Then go check the fuse board. ;)

Why would you use Pliers to remove Light Bulbs? No wonder your ****ing bulbs are exploding! :D

As suggested turn off the breakers/fuses to that area and change it. If you can't wait for a family member until Saturday call a sparky.
Unless you have a simultaneous gas leak at the same time it won't be problem.

However, I am not a shop. I mean expert. Hence I'd try and get it out by the bayonet points only...

You have a bad circuit somewhere, it's poor wiring that's causing it, my living room light has it, i have about a bulb go every 2 months, it's quite a nerving thing. It's quite a bang and the glass shatters ebverywhere. I keep meaing to get an electrician but also keep forgetting. I should say that i was using 100W bulbs but dropped them down to 6oW.

Yes, other lights and all other stuff is working

go to the fuse box and look for 'lights' switch it off, the lights in the house will go out if you leave them on when you do it.

if there is no labels, turn them all off one by one until the lights go out. don't do it if anyone is on lifesupport or anything.

We have an old style fusebox. There is a on off switch. If I flick that too off that will guarantee all power is then stopped through out the house?

I don't have to yank out the fuse plug cartridge things, which are not labelled???

Hit the house breaker switch, grab a torch and investigate.

The guy can't change a ****ing Light Bulb, how's doing some diagnostics going to help? If you gave him a Multi-Meter he'd probably stick the probes in his ears, wonder where the music was and eventually choke to death trying to eat it.
