Am in a major **** right now and need your all expertise.
All of a sudden when playing far cry 4 the pc made a huge snap/ pop and toxic smoke came out.Shut the pc off quickly.
But the pc still worked and cards seemed fine after turning it back on until i played far cry 4 again glitching then pc shutdown/restart and smoke coming out again. Really bad smell.
I Dont know where the ****ing hell its coming from unplugged optical drive 'cos saw the smoke Around that area but not sure at all.
Guys need your help on this one, major ****!

Anything smell bad inside? Any blackening on any of the components? Could be a capacitor blown somewhere. PSU could have blown one of its components.

Computer has smoke coming out of it so you turn it on again!! That's just asking for trouble. Find out where it's coming from and don't use it until you rectify the problem. The rad probably sucked the smoke through which is why you can smell it on the rad.

sounds like it could be the PSU

if it was the rad wouldn't the CPU over heat if it wasn't working? don't know overly loads about water cooling setups to be honest

thinking more if its shutting down

you need to whittle it down, take out psu first and test with another if you can or do the paperclip test

also take out both gpu's and run off igpu then see if its still smoking

could be anything psu/mb/gpu

Sniff around the power supply, being that there was a pop and smoke that seems like the most likely culprit, it might even have been what gave you motherboard problems before.
In my experience melted electrical components smell like germolene antiseptic cream.

gpu/psu/mb

you can only try different things to find which it is,3 titans I would remove first thing, you don't wanna risk whatever it is taking out those

test psu first (paperclip test while unplugged from mb),and run off igpu to test the mb,if alls well it only leaves gpu

have a feeling its either psu or mb but im only guessing

He has a psu bridge thing, Wazza :) No igpu on that 4960x though...

I'll be popping by on Thursday for a closer look. Hope you guys can help narrow it down in the meantime.

There is the slight possibilty that the rad in the rear compartment may have a slight leak (due to screws possibly puncturing it) and could have leaked either onto the psu or one of it's fans.

Smoke is one thing, but a loud snap/pop is far more telling and worrying.

Really sounds like something has blown, possibly something on the mb however the fact that the machine still runs (as above, don't run it up again) it could well be the PSU has either a manufacture defect or has developed a problem.

Daft question, but can that PSU handle the load of your machine?

I had a similar problem when I built my first system. Built everything and came to turning it on and for 10 seconds everything was fine and pop like a light bulb I could smell like new plastic burnt. This problem was rectified by replacing the PSU. P's make sure you test your RAM afterwards.

I would take that fan out and have a close look at it. If it was one of the fan LEDs that caused it, I'd guess it was one of the resistors as I can't think of anything else in a fan that would smoke if it popped. Have a look around the base of the LEDs if you can for any scorch or blackened marks, especially around the resistors.

If you have access to a PSU checker I'd still prefer to check the PSU voltages just to check everything looks normal before throwing 3 titans at it again though.
